What Kind Of Tires For Snow & Ice?

I always seems to get the best answer here from my loyal readers. What kind of tires would you recommend for driving in snow and ice?
My Kia Sportage came with something called Hankook tires, while rated M+S on the sidewall, they are the pits when driving on snow or ice covered roadways. The tires themselves are great on dry pavement.
Let me know what you drive on.
Comments welcome.

Being from CA I’m not sure what would work on ice other than studs or chains. But my Bridgestone Duellers (revo) works pretty good on my Suburban in snow. They might even work on that go-cart of yours!

You might look at the BF Goodrich Long Trail. Not sure if they’re available for your vehicle but they are good road tire for light trucks and offer decent traction snowy stuff.

Heh Goose,
I checked my size 235×60x16 or 215×65x16 and they do not come in that configuration. Thanks anyway.

The best all season tires, that would work best in the snow would be the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred Tires…they are long lasting, and give you the best traction/ride.
I work for a tire store and since these tires have come out, I always recommend these first as the best all season tire to purchase. The only way to get better traction would be to go to a snow tire.

Thank you Allen. Consumer Reports seems to agree with you. They also rate the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tred #1.

The General Grabber HTS is a terrific tire in snow. I recently drove in the mountains in a heavy snow storm, and these tires rode like they were on dry pavement. I felt as if I were riding on angels’ breath. I believe that they are comparable to authentic snow tires. I previously had Nokian tires on the car, which are designated as winter tires, but the Generals got better traction in the snow. They are also great performers on dry and wet roads, which make them an ideal all-weather tire. They utilize a new tire compound that stays completely flexible in icy conditions.
