Nintendo Wii Still Kicking Butt

Posted by on Nov 15, 2008 | 20 Comments

October sales are showing that Nintendo’s popular Wii console is still kicking sales butt. Up against Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3, the Wii still out sells both of these units combined. As I have previously mentioned, the Wii is just a better game experience and offers interactive play for the entire family. Oh yeah….. it is just flat out fun.

Sales figures as presented by the Silicon Valley Insider show the Wii in the lead:

Look at the sales figures for consoles in October:

  • Wii: 803,000 consoles
  • Xbox 360: 370,000
  • PS3: 190,000
  • PS2: 136,000 (People are still buying PS2s?)
  • Sony PSP: 193,000

Nintendo’s dominance (and Sony’s problems) don’t end there. Among handheld videogame players, Nintendo again beats Sony:

  • Nintendo DS: 491,000
  • Sony PSP: 193,000

So if you are looking for a gaming console this holiday season, may I recommend the Wii. You and your family will not be disappointed.

Comments welcome.

The vast differences between Google+ and Facebook make the point of this post moot, nearly – While facebook is a walled garden social network accepted by the masses and iterated by Zuckerberg’s team of smarties – Google+ on the other hand is a widespread integrated platform of communication with social sharing features and rich conversation that allows for non-bidirectional relationships to introduce you to new people and enrich your existing network with people you’ve never heard of nor would otherwise.

Ron, you missed what makes G+ great on a fundamental level by simply comparing it to Facebook… At the simplest form, yea, sure it’s a social network, and there are similarities, but in the end, it’s a whole other animal and with proper use and some attention – instead of just going with what you know – could and should turn out to be a stronger resource in a shorter timeframe.

Case & point, I have accumulated and surpassed the following I had on twitter and facebook combined (over 7 combined years of networking) in just 4 weeks, and the connections are all more engaging and provide more conversation than I’ve seen on both networks since they started.

I definitely see your point regarding the non-bidirectional relationship, my primary issue comes with the fact that your using a bias rant to describe Facebook.

You could just have easily described Facebook as a “widespread integrated platform of communication with social sharing features”, in fact I would say Facebook fits that description more so than Google+. I’m not saying G+ couldn’t become that further in the future, just not at this point. I’m, of course, referring to the FB “platform” (I hate that ‘platform’ is now a buzzword), and the fact that the ‘Send’ and ‘Like’ buttons permeate the internet.

Now that I think about it, even the whole non-bidirectional relationship point is almost moot if you look at fan pages. Maybe, maybe not.

I do agree that it is a completely different beast that needs to have some attention and time to really use successfully. I think what Ron’s point is, is that he doesn’t have the time to devote to another social network that, right now, consists mostly of tech pundits and journalists. (Yes, I understand that there are many non techies on there, but you can’t deny that normal users are the minority.)

Wow a chore? Sign up put your basic info and viola you are done. Just because these sites exist doesn’t mean you have to use them all the time. Going a day, week , month or a year without an update wont hurt you at all.

If social networking is a chore, I would just quite Facebook too.

This article was just meant to bait the trolls to drive up ad traffic. Nothing to see here.

Thanks for vacating an invite! I’ve been needing a few more…

This is the 15th post I have read about people quitting G+ and why, funny thing is that I would have never heard of any of these people or have been exposed to the article if it wasn’t for Google+, go figure. Have fun on the Titanic.

I must admit this is how I feel in a way. At the moment there is no smooth connection because Google+ is so new. I tend to use clients like tweetdeck which does bring Facebook, twitter etc together and makes it much easier to manage time. I really hope the developers decide to integrate Google+ into these clients soon.

If you didnt have the time to juggle several Social Network Pages, Why did you want SOOO BAD an invite? I don’t get you.

  • Denise Jordao

you deleted my comment?? what? Can’t face Captain Obvious??

Again, if you don’t have time for Social Networks why were you so eager for a Google+ invite?

  • Bill england

And you’re still here WHY? You are doing nobody a favor by being a naysayer on the very website you disparage. G+ is nothing compared to what Fb is doing with your info. Just because you don’t overtly SEE it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening to you. Fb knows more about you than your own family does. Trust me!!

  • Charles Billow

Ron, and here I thought I was just getting old and grumpy to have come to the same conclusion as you have! Now I can breathe easier!

  • Norbert ( Bob ) Gostischa

I may be old and sometimes I’m even grumpy but I was happy when my Google+ invite arrived.
I’ve enjoyed it more than I ever did Facebook. I’m using Facebook strictly to communicate with the family while I’m away from home. Google+ is being used for everything else.

Except it has not been proven in any way, shape or form that G+ has a better “safety record or gas mileage”.

To use your analogy, why should he spend 50k on a brand new car when his ’76 Pacer is getting him around just fine?

  • Denise Jordao

This guy (the owner of the blog) just deleted my 2 comments?? what? he Can’t face Captain Obvious??

Again, if he doesn’t have time for Social Networks why was he so eager for a Google+ invite?

    You’re assuming he’s using Chrome.

You’re also assuming that the cross posting of that nature will not create a horrid environment. Granted, I’m assuming the opposite, however I think most can agree that it’s quite annoying seeing a random tweet within a Facebook News Feed completely out of context.
