Windows 7 – Will It Be What Vista Should Have Been?
Hope is running high in the computer community that Microsoft may, just may, get Windows 7 right. There is also talk that Windows 7 will be what Vista should have been. But is Vista that bad or is Windows 7 going to be just better? Will Windows 7 actually be Vista 2?
There is no doubt in my mind that Microsoft is being more open in the development of Windows 7. Its blog site reflects a commitment from the company of actually listening to users and trying to fix what was wrong with Vista. Microsoft also appears to be using this information to fix Vista in its next service pack dubbed SP2, which is currently in beta testing. But will this all be enough?
CMS Wire states:
New taskbar, new explorer functionality, new UAC controls, new home networking… it all sounds quite overwhelming considering a previous major release (Vista) hit store shelves only less than two years ago. Granted, things were less than spectacular with Vista.
Think of this as Microsoft’s second chance to make things right. They have to deliver the goods. Windows 7 is all about exposing the improvements that have made their way into Vista, but have not yet been taken advantage of for whatever reasons.
That is the key statement ‘ Windows 7 is all about exposing the improvements that have made their way into Vista, but have not yet been taken advantage of for whatever reasons.’
So it does appear that Windows 7 will be exactly what Steve Ballmer has previously stated in that Windows 7 will be Vista, only better.
Which brings up another question. Will Vista users be stuck with an unpopular OS like the people got stuck with Windows ME? What do you think?
Comments welcome.
