Windows 7 – Will It Be What Vista Should Have Been?

Posted by on Nov 5, 2008 | 6 Comments

Hope is running high in the computer community that Microsoft may, just may, get Windows 7 right. There is also talk that Windows 7 will be what Vista should have been. But is Vista that bad or is Windows 7 going to be just better? Will Windows 7 actually be Vista 2?

There is no doubt in my mind that Microsoft is being more open in the development of Windows 7. Its blog site reflects a commitment from the company of actually listening to users and trying to fix what was wrong with Vista. Microsoft also appears to be using this information to fix Vista in its next service pack dubbed SP2, which is currently in beta testing. But will this all be enough?

CMS Wire states:

New taskbar, new explorer functionality, new UAC controls, new home networking… it all sounds quite overwhelming considering a previous major release (Vista) hit store shelves only less than two years ago. Granted, things were less than spectacular with Vista.

Think of this as Microsoft’s second chance to make things right. They have to deliver the goods. Windows 7 is all about exposing the improvements that have made their way into Vista, but have not yet been taken advantage of for whatever reasons.

That is the key statement ‘ Windows 7 is all about exposing the improvements that have made their way into Vista, but have not yet been taken advantage of for whatever reasons.’

So it does appear that Windows 7 will be exactly what Steve Ballmer has previously stated in that Windows 7 will be Vista, only better.

Which brings up another question. Will Vista users be stuck with an unpopular OS like the people got stuck with Windows ME? What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I think average users will just stick with Windows Vista until they get a new machine but I suspect many Windows geeks will upgrade. I have written about Windows 7 on my blog with a remarkably similar title lol and I think it is too late for some ex-Windows users like myself who have switched to the Mac. However, I am curious to see if Microsoft gets its act together with Windows 7 because they cannot afford another Vista.

I been trying as hard as i can to see what’s wrong with Vista. But of course i purchased my computer with Vista installed. It was shortly after Vista came out.I havent had any problems with it.It runs all my programs and games.Of course like XP,we had to wait on certain drivers. But i worked around it and my printer and webcam worked fine. And as new drivers came in i installed the updated ones.Mac just cost to much for my budget.Or i would try it.But will always have Windows.I have a Linux machine i’am playing with.Well a old computer i installed it into.Simply because i want to be open minded and learn.

Windows XP Pro forever. Screw Vista….it’s an obscenity for fools. Why would anyone want to be forced to a new computer for more pigware from MS?
