Mozy Backup & Word – Remove Check Marks

Posted by on Nov 4, 2008 | 23 Comments

If you are a user of Mozy Backup and also have Microsoft Word on your system, you may have noticed that some of your saved documents have either a green check mark or red exclamation on the documents icon. I had this problem and could not find a solution. But I finally read a post in a forum which stated the offender is Mozy Backup.

If you use Mozy Backup go into options, and check ‘Disable icon overlays in Windows Explorer.’ After a reboot the markings should disappear.

Comments welcome.

I protect my files and emails with a very easy to use data backup software called Titan Backup, the destination is a 500gb WD harddisk, but the company stated that an online feature is under work also. Give it a free trial here.

I also got my hands on a 30% discount coupon from them, during the order process enter this coupon:NEOB-M5VL

    Ron –

I’m just a regular guy trying to use my PC to run my small business. I booted up the Pc this morning, after running Mozy for the past 3 days (!) and those red exclamation points nearly caused me to lose my mind!

Thanks so much for posting your concise answer!

    Hello Charlie from Boston,
I’m glad it helped. It drove me nuts before I found the answer as well.

What happens when there is no Wifi?

    • http://profiles.google.com/koman92040 Charles Keisler

Google has partnered with Verizon to offer 100MB of free 3G service every month for 2 years. Additionally Google is working on developing Native HTML5 offline support.

Are you using the Developer or Beta channel? http://j.mp/l4YT6W
I switched from beta to developer and things improved a lot, but I’m not sure it ever comes close to beating a MacBook Air running Chrome.
I think the CR-48 will forever be in beta-limbo.

I have the Cr-48, and I love it. I use it for a lot of things including taking notes in class via Google Docs. All it still needs is an adequate file browser, a dedicated media player, and Netflix compatibility.

    • http://wp3.lockergnome.com/nexus/blade/ Ron Schenone

      Hi lane,
Agree that Netflix would be nice. :-)

Ah, excellent article Chris. Glad it’s working out for you. I just wish that I could find stuff like this to test and keep for myself and my own blog I just started.

As a program to improve the Chrome browser, the cr48 is a success. As an OS, the best I can say is that it is an interesting experiment.

    Ron,

Thanks for sharing the update. What’s your reaction to the Verizon connection? Is it fairly stable? Is the 100MB per month adequate for your needs?

In addition, when you go WiFi – how does that compare to the 3G connection?

    Thanks.

    Joe

      Hi Joseph,
The Verizon connection is quick and very stable. But I believe that this could vary depending on where you live.
100MB per month is fine for what I do. Most times I am using a Wi-Fi, whether at home or at a hot spot. Both
Wi-fi and 3G seem about the same. I have a 10g cable connection at home.
