Windows 7 – Same As Vista, Only Better?

Posted by on Oct 29, 2008 | 5 Comments

Now that the preview of Vista’s replacement Windows 7 has been released, we should be hearing more about the new operating system during the next few weeks. I’ve downloaded the preview of Windows 7 and I am hoping to get the preview installed this evening. But in the mean time, Engadget already has posted what appears to be a screen shot of the new OS as well as a description of some of the new features.

One of the changes in Windows 7 is that the side bar is no longer present. Instead gadgets can be placed anywhere on the desktop. Also the taskbar has been changed by showing Icons only. UAC can be set to level control and access. Media Center can be tweaked.

Though it is way to early to tell what additional changes may be made to the operating system, the words of Steve Balmer echo loudly. ‘Windows 7 will be Vista, only better’. Which could mean they are going to move stuff around and provide some tweaks and change the name.

Only time will tell how this all plays out.

Comments welcome.

Well, In my opinion Windows seems to be copying Apple more and more. Also think about it. When is the last time you have seen any real innovation out of Microsoft’s OS.

“A Better Vista” doesn’t sound awful. The concept of Vista is great, it’s the implementation that didn’t quite work out (possibly an understatement). It’ll definitely be interesting to see how Win7 comes out as a final release.

your kinda right computerwhiz1, but remember who came up with the ideas of icons, a gui… and much more, really, microsoft is just building on their previous ideas

Just started using Vista. Early reaction? Gee, it seems a lot like Apple OS X with a lot missing. Is Windows 7 going to complete the missing concepts?

My friend wrecked his computer. I told him to download Glary Utilities to clean it up but forgot to tell him to avoid the registry cleaner. It has been known to cause problems on Vista and 7 when people don’t know what they’re doing.
