Dell Inspiron Mini 12 – With Vista – Why?

There are numerous articles being posted on the Internet concerning Dells new Mini 12 netbook system, which some are comparing to the MacBook Air. Yes the Dell Mini 12 is sleek and thin and yes it is a whole lot cheaper priced at $599, but it comes with Microsoft’s Windows Vista. Which makes me ask the question, why Vista?

The Dell Mini 12 comes with Intels Atom processor which is a single core and only 1G of RAM. There is little doubt in my mind that with this combo processor and RAM, the system is going to be sluggish. Fortunately this system will be offered in Japan first and not the U.S. The models coming to the U.S. may come with the stripped down Windows XP or Linux, so it is best to wait until this happens.

What do you think? Would you buy a system that is light on resources running Vista?

I would buy it… and then put linux on it!

Really, in a laptop there is no use for vista. Really, in a laptop you dont need an operating system. It’s all internet. Especially in a netbook like that. The only reason someone would put windows on a laptop in my opinion, is because they need microsoft word.

Hello George,
That’s me. I need Word. :-)

What Do You Think?
