Are You Ready For Mozilla’s Minefield?

Over at C/net they piqued my curiosity when they mentioned a new browser from the mozilla folks called Minefield. In their assessment they claimed that Minefield is some 10% faster than Chrome. With this in mind, I downloaded a copy to see for myself.

Before you get all excited and run to your download button, let me just say this. Minefield is alpha software. It doesn’t look any different than Firefox 3 and some of the add-ons you have may not work properly. In fact, none of mine worked at all.

Is it faster? I don’t see it. But how can you even see 10% faster to begin with? :-)

Anyway, you can read more about Minefield here and download a copy here.

Have fun.

Mozzilla definitely needs to do something to speed up their browser(s). I’ll getting tired of the script is taking too long messages when I have more than a dozen tabs open. As a windows programmer it seems that all tabs are using a single message polling loop.

The browser code seems to be taking on more functionality implemented as scripts instead of native executable code.

One of the reasons I originally switched to Firefox was that it was so much faster than IE. But since 2.011 or so, I just do not feel the speed difference anymore.

“peaked”?

The word is “piqued” my friend.
