Reader Needs Help With HP Computer

Reader Angelo Molarit stated:

Hi Ron, the previous do not apply to me, but maybe you can direct me to a solution.
This morning my HP m8100y shot down and when I got it on, it gave me the HP blue screen with choices to hit :
Esc= Boot menu (it freezes saying “loading boot menu”),
F10 = setup (freezes saying “loading setup”) or
F11 = System recovery (Nothing happens, with or without the recovery disk inserted).
I am willing to reformat bu how do I access the recovery disks?

Hello Angelo,
I went to HP’s site and found this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00899280&lc=en&dlc=tr&cc=tr&lang=tr&rule=1373&product=3463405

Note this: Make sure there are no USB devices, CD/DVD’s or other devices connected to the system and try booting again following the info on this page.

I’ll also post your request for help in an article and see what we get.

Suggestions? Ideas? All are welcome.

Hello,

Is the computer configured in its BIOS settings to first boot from the hard disk drive? If so, this will need to be changed to boot from the CD/DVD drive in order to start the computer from the recovery media, I would think.

Aryeh Goretsky

if you’re going to reformat, put in the recovery disks and start the computer, then, you have to go to boot menu and select boot from disk.

Now this guy says the boot menu isn’t working for him, it just freezes. Now, because the boot menu isn’t assosiated with the operating system, its assosiated with the bios, and because the bios wont start up naturally you wont be able to boot from the disk. This means theres a problem with the bios, which is far, FAR worse than a problem with the operating system. As far as I can tell, although I may be overlooking something (I doubt it) you have 2 options:

1. reset the bios by opening up the case. On the motherboard there is a battery, its the exact same kind of battery you put into a watch. it looks exactly the same as a watch battery. pull it out for 5 min. when you put it back in, the bios will be reset and everything should work.

2. if it doesnt work, your motherboard is shot. if your bios is broken, your computer will never be able to work again. so, buy a new one I guess.

I cant really think of any other solutions. I might be missing something, but I doubt it. Good luck, and I hope this helps!!! :)

Hello Aryeh and George,
Thanks to you both for stopping by. I just posted a link for Angelo to stop by here and provide more information.

George - that was my first thought as well. With the system totally freezing no matter what he does, it does sound like a cpu or motherboard failure. :-(

Arieh and George, thank you very much for your help.
It looks like I need a new computer.
I have removed the battery and replaced it after 15 minutes, and, I don’t know if this is relevant, but the ONLY difference was that when I press the button to shut off, at first, it took few seconds, I had to keep the button pressed; after several tries this period of time has been shortened until now it shuts instantly.

Thank You
