Circuit City Could Close 150 Stores

Talk about a down turn. Circuity City, the #2 electronic retailer, is in deep financial trouble. Their stock is trading at .39 cents a share which just adds to their problems. There is now talk that Circuit City may have to close down some 150 stores in order to try and survive.
Personally I always find our local Circuit City store well stocked and for the most part, had very helpful employees. But it seems that Best Buy, for whatever reason, is the top dog and has pounced on Circuit City sales. It is unfortunate if Circuit City folds, since competition in the electronics market is always a good thing.
Last quarter Circuit City posted a loss of $239 million. Ouch!
What do you think of Circuit City?
Comments welcome.

i think circuit city is a great store, they carry products that best buy doesn’t have. i think they have a great selection and there service is top notch. i’d be upset if they closed down then best buy would raise prices since the competition is scarce. who will compete with them (best Buy), Walmart? I’ve been hoping they go away since they tried to foist Divx on the public. I waited until the final DVD spec was ratified, bought an expensive player and watched what should have been a torrent of films remastered to DVD turn into a slow drip. It took a year for releases to get back on track while the studios waited to see if the pay-for-view was going to take hold. I haven’t set foot in one since.

I am currently a manager at a circuit city store in Florida, circuit city is not closing any stores. The company is keeping their options open and yes it could be an option but no one has decided that yet. im getting tired of hearing this rumor when its not even true. we are changing a lot of things for the better of the company and hopefully we’ll be able to make it through this rough time.

Hello CCity Girl,
Thanks for sharing this information with us. I hope CC doesn’t have to close stores and that the company survives.
Best regards, Ron

Im glad they are paying for the mistake of march 07, when they fired all of their higher paid employees, sales dipped then to the lowest levels ever, so much for saving money! They fired 5000 employees, who supposedly made too much, 10 percent of the companies employees were fired that day and we sold 80 percent of the stuff

Well i worked at compUSA till they closed then move to C City at “MID pay” well that was less then i got hired on at Comp with no retail exp. and i was there for well over a yr and a half. I found that they over charged for everything in the story even with me using my discount, that was a laugh! BTW they used the same slide show that comp used before they closed in maybe feb. of ‘08 so if you have any chance to get out, do it sooner not later! It sucks trying to find a job and compete against all your friends
