Actually, I disagree keepitsimple - The intel switch was done so program developers could make multiplatform software easier. They were never going to make the non Apple market go their way, so they switched over.

Its a smart move. More people can run mac's now with an increasing number of compatible apps. Windows support comes with the Intel processor. It is a great selling point to say "Hey, you get the simplest, most secure and least buggy computer on the market, AND you can also run windows on it, with absolutely no driver hassle in the case you need to run windows only apps."

Kudos to them for finding a way to drive sales.

I do not agree that people are buying Macs to run OSX. If that were the case, why would Apple officially support the ability to run Windows and why are there programs like Fusion out there? The growth for Apple started AFTER the switch to Intel and AFTER they supported Windows. Apple conceded the operating system war to Microsoft once they said "Buy a Mac and you can STILL use Windows". If OSX was the better operating system, there would be no need to run Visa or XP on top of it.

What Apple has done is build a better windows-based PC than most PC manufacturers. The industrial design of the Macbook Pro and Macbook are better than most PC notebooks. Couple the improved design with the ability to run the operating system that 90% of the world uses, and growth happens.
