Over at the Google blog there is an article in which Google Maps & Earth can be used to find Red Cross Shelters in the Texas and Louisiana areas, following Hurricane Ike. Not only is the location of the shelter is included on the map, but also if the shelter provides other services, such as those for special need victims.
The blog also states:
the Red Cross has set up a number of shelters, providing food, safety, shelter, and above all, hope. Working with the Red Cross, we’ve mapped the open American Red Cross Shelters in the states of Texas and Louisiana. These locations, updated every ten minutes, are available to view in Google Earth, or via Google Maps:
If you are a friend, family member or someone else you know lives in these two states, they can use Google Maps or Google Earth to find shelter.
Comments welcome.
