Aflac Duck Is A Real Quacker When It Comes To Email
It seems that the HR department at Aflac needs a tutorial in sending out emails. It recently sent emails to 623 people who were applying for jobs at the company. There is just one minor problem. All of the 623 names were in the TO: field. Heh Aflac? Has anyone heard of the BCC field? This has always been a bone of contention with me. Those forwarded emails with hundreds of email addresses just go to show how irresponsibleĀ some people are.
For years I have always had an ANYONE in my address book. Who is ANYONE? It is me and my email address. I send a TO; message to ANYONE and then use the BCC: field for everyone else. This protects the names in my address book and also provides a copy of the message send back to myself. This confirms that the mail actually went through.
Not to be outdone, Activision did the same thing. But their TO: entries numbered 860 customers who were introduced to each other. Though it would appear that none of the customers are spammers, it still goes to show what can happen sometimes. I don’t think most of us would appreciate having our email address distributed to the world.
So my question is this: When you receive an email that has multiple addresses in the TO: field, do you mention this to the sender?
Comments welcome.
