Posted by on Aug 15, 2008 | One Comment

For those of you who have installed SP1 for Microsoft Windows Vista, you may have noticed a large quantity of unwanted files left behind after the installation completes. These files are left behind in case a user wishes to uninstall SP1. But if you are satisfied with SP1 and plan on not uninstalling it, you can remove those unwanted files by following these simple instructions:

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Type in CMD
  3. Press the Enter key to open up the command prompt.
  4. At the command prompt type vsp1cln.exe
  5. Press Enter

That’s it. Be aware that once the files are removed from your system you will not be able to uninstall SP1.

Comments welcome.

This was strange… I opened the properties of my C drive and noted that the free space was 87.1 GB. After running the SP1 cleanup, I had 86.8 free. Hmmmmmm. It ate up .3 GB!
