Fix Your Dell Power Adapter Connection For Cheap

One of the more popular articles I have written has been about the problems consumers have experienced with trying to get their Dell power adapter to stay connected. Even after bringing this problem to the attention of Dell advocates, it appears that the problem is for real and that people are still having problems. Well today I found an interesting repair article that has what appears to be a fix for the problem.
In viewing the fix article and supplemental pictures, this repair does take some minor skills and may best be left to a person who is mechanically inclined. Which means that you may need a friend, family member or crafty type person to assist you if you feel the mechanics is over your head.
I took a look at the step by step guide, and it appears you will need the following:
Plastic top from a can of coffee, hole punch, hole enlarger, 1/16″ drill bit and two screws.
Comments welcome.

I have a similar problem with my Inspiron 1525, that charger would not “charge” my computer, it had to be plugged in to even be turned on and so Dell sent a technician out to fix my clock that was no longer working on my less than year old computer and replace my motherboard, one problem he has never worked on my type of computer before, when he left the lights on my computer no longer worked, my computer no longer went into sleep mode and my touch pad no longer worked! We have called Dell 7 times, e-mailed 2 times and my problem has still not been resolved. I have read a lot online about Dell Hell but this was never expected. My Fiance was an avid Dell buyer, he has spent thousands of dollars on Dell products. If our problem is not resolved he may be closing his account with them and we will never buy another Dell product, again. I hate when companys do nothing for their customers.
Sincerely,
Samantha

same problem, got it fixed cheap from a local for 100$, he said it was much harder than he thought
4 months later i STILL NEED TO TAPE MY CHARGER IN MY LAPTOP.
over the christmas break i heard a shock, and the charger was done. at this point i do not know if the charger is messed or if it’s the laptop plug in thingy.
i have a gateway from around 2002-4 with a model: PA-1121-08 adapter.
thanks so much. i thought i was the only one.
BTW, when i plug my chager into the wall and laptop at the same time it makes a beeping noise. probably mean that it is broken.

I too cannot keep my charger cord on my 1501 Inspiron computer.
I think that my computer is now obsolete should tell me something. Personally I have never had a moment’s
trouble with Dell service personel. My computer has messed up twice and they went out of their way to fix it when I
was under warranty. Now my cord is on the blink. I personally believe it has more to do with the few times I have dropped it on a hard floor.
I have always had a comment read that it is not the correct
make of cord however. I haven’t had any problems with it
recharging though.
Did Dell get some imitation products sold to them?
I had the same reading on my microsoft software and
it is the legitimate thing according to all factory labels.
Hmm.
I bought it directly from Dell….should be a Dell.
I have had many glitches and problems at the beginning.
Now that all has been worked out I love my Dell.

I have the same issue with a Dell D610. The power cord is not so loose that it falls out, but it is so loose, a simple snag will unplug it.
I believe this is an intentional design so if someone trips on teh power cord, they won’t pull your laptop off a table to crash on the floor.
It is very annoying, though, since the cord becomes unplugged rather “stealthily”, and the battery eventually dies.
