Apple Should Call New iPhone The pPhone For Porn

Is Apple going to be known as the largest porn distributor in the Western Hemisphere? It seems that some of the major porn sites are excited about the new iPhone because of the increased speed it will pose, which will make those who view porn delighted. Apples newest phone is being referred to as the “iPhone Porn”.

According to the Times article:

Leading porn purveyors see the iPhone as a dream come true. Its relatively ample screen size, speedy Web access and ease of use are just part of it. The device’s miniaturized version of Apple’s Safari software simplifies mobile access and streamlines the process of tailoring dirty sites for optimal viewing on the go. “It’s by far the porn-friendliest phone,” says Devan Cypher, representative for San Francisco–based Sin City Entertainment. As evidence of the gadget’s rocketing popularity in California’s porn capital, the San Fernando Valley, numerous iPhone-specific porn sites have been launched in recent months. “There are a few hundred iPhone porn sites now in use,” says Farley Cahen, vice president of business development for AVN Media Network, the adult industry’s trade body. Many others are currently in the works targeting the iPhone 2.0, which goes on sale July 11.

But Apple says no, no to porn:

Apple spokeswoman Jennifer Bowcock says the company doesn’t condone iPhone porn distribution and will ban adult content from official applications, just as it has restricted adult content in the podcast section of the Apple store.

After reading several articles on this subject and listening to Apple’s response, it would appear that the iPhone is just getting a bad rap. It is not the iPhone that causes the porn, it is the perverted users.

But what do you think? Is Apple getting a bad rap or are they not doing enough?

Comments welcome.

perverted users? who are you to judge people viewing legal content on their own devices? c’mon man, we are constantly losing freedom worldwide, and acting morally superior isn’t helping matters

I agree with nobody (sorry, had to do that).

I attempted to respond earlier but WordPress kicked me out for using the P word.

The P word tends to drive technology. Don’t believe me?
When vcr’s first came out, the only tapes available contained the P word. When people started dialing out to BBSes, they were downloading files (the P word). Bittorrent traffic… know what it’s partly composed of? Yup, the P word.

The cell carriers have been rushing for years to get the speeds up so they can stream the P word. I’ve been reading about it forever and I’m surprised that it’s taken this long.

As for obscenity, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. First there were the reality shows. Then came Americans Idle. THAT is obscene. The gov’t really needs to step in and do something about this while the populace still has one live brain cell left (but that’s the point, isn’t it?).

As if that weren’t enough, there’s sports. It’s disgusting. You can’t escape it. It’s on the radio, tv, and iPhone. And we all know that sports leads to beer. You gotta love the hypocrisy of alcohol. Buy our booze but drink and drive responsibly. It’s obscene, I tell you.

IIRC you were the fellow calling for his readers to respect the opinions of others.

Anyway, your bias is showing. Cover it up – there are children reading.

I respect your opinion. This is why I approved your comment.

Had I deleted it and not let anyone see it, now that would be biased!

I just hope Simon doesn’t see your comment about American Idol. :-)

Perverted, thats exactly what those who view p0rn are. Nothing more. How is viewing child p0rnography, bestiality and all that other kind of nonsense going to help our society? If you view restrictions on watching p0rn as your freedom being taken away, than your’e introuble. You are already a slave to p0rn.
