Why Firefox Is The Pride Of Open Source At Its Best
Like many of you, my first browser experience was with Netscape. Over the years I used every version of Netscape including Communicator, up until the demise of the company back in 2003. It appeared that our only browser option was going to be Internet Explorer for the foreseeable future. But out of the ashes came a new browser, though based on Netscape it had its own unique look and feel, and thus was born Firefox.
So this morning when I read an article over at the San Jose Mercury news, this one statement holds true:
Even if you don’t use Firefox, you’re benefiting from its existence. The IE team is pushing ahead with its own development cycle, which will see the release of the second beta of IE 8.0 in August. The first beta of IE 8.0 had its own nifty improvements, and there are surely more to come. Would IE’s development seem quite as urgent without Firefox eating away at its lead? I doubt it. Still, I’m not here today to bash Microsoft, but rather to praise Mozilla.
This weekend I’ll fire up the final of FF3. Having used all of beta’s, the final should be the best Firefox yet.
Comments welcome.
