I Got My Gmail Back & Working! Here’s What Happened

On Sunday I posted just a quick note asking if anyone was having trouble with there Google Gmail account. For some unknown reason my account was showing the following message:

’sorry, your account has been disabled’

Not only could I not access my Gmail, but also my Google homepage, Google Adsense and Google Alerts. I finally was able to locate a support source via email and after 3 emails back and forth, my account was reactivated and I changed my password as recommended by Google technical support as well as my security question and answer.

I also learned something. When there is a problem with a Google Gmail account, they attempt to alert you via your secondary address if available. But my secondary email address was no longer valid since I had changed ISP’s about 2 years. My Gmail account now has the correct secondary address as well as the changes mentioned above.

All in all, it took about 30 hours to get the account reactivated.

I’m not sure if my account was compromised or not, but I am glad Google tech people were there to stop any unwanted activity.

Nice job Google!

Comments welcome.

Geeeeeeezzzzzzzzz,,,,,,,,,AND Google . JOG’s . Too . :-) !!!

Hey Ron, maybe it’s time you have more than one Gmail account.

the only problem that i’ve ever had with google is their customer support. they aren’t bad, but they need a bigger support team, and finding a support email address can be hard.

Hi MikeWill,

Good idea. :-)

Heh George,

It was hard finding it. :-(

Thanks for the comments.

I had the same problem with Ebay here recently. I could not remember the Ebay user name or password associated with my Paypal account. After a few hours I found out it was linked to an old ISP e-mail account that was no longer valid,

yada yada yada

I lost the iPhone and three days later I got my Ebay back.

Oh pretty please could you tell us what that technical support email address was!!! The same thing happened to me and I can’t find an email for any help from Google!! My life is on gmail! Any help would be very appreciated!!

Hey Ron,
I don’t think you’re Outlook Express works either……

Hello Rebecca,

mail-support@google.com

This is the address I received back when I first filed a support request.

Heh Goose,
OE working A-OK. :-)

_____Hey gooose____
……….DATS Because Ron’s Too Busy with . DUH - BLADE :-( !!!

Thanks a bunch. I’ll give it a try!

Hi Ron,
One last question the support from that address already got back to me and again point me in the direction of the Google help section. Do you have any advice on how to avoid these form letters? Is there a magic word that will coerce them to help you?!

Hello Rebecca,
Were you assigned a reference number?

The first message I received I replied to stating I still needed assistance. Read the message carefully and see what yours says. This is easy to over look.

The second asked a bunch of security related questions which I replied to.

The third gave me instructions on how to reactivate the account.

From start to finish it was 30 hours. No magic words. Sorry.

I did get a reference number but it is of no help. The email they sent me said they investigated the issue but results are inconclusive. I am unable to reply to any of the emails and if I try I only get a form letter back. I am at my wits end. Customer service at google is non-existent. All I want is a real reply and hope for my account!

Hi Rebecca,
That is the only support address I have.

Just curious. What type of problem are you having?

Yes thank you for the address. It was worth a shot.

I was logged on to gmail all day the 16th and later that night I tried to get back on and my password was not working. ( I get on gmail every single day so that is weird).

Second I followed all the exact directions for resetting a password but my secondary address is forwarded to my gmail. And when I tried to answer my security question after 24 hrs. it was not going through either.

So that is where I hit my dead end. I have filled out the “support” form multiple times with a great amount of detail (frequent contacts, who invited me etc etc.) But I keep receiving an email back that they investigated it and the results are inconclusive. They gave no indication of any other steps I could take or whether I would get my account back!

Its tremendously frustrating and overwhelming to think I’ve lost all the info.

Hello Rebecca,

‘my secondary address is forwarded to my gmail’

There may be where the problem is. You can’t verify the password change and are stuck in a catch 22 of sorts. Just a guess on my part.

Is there anyway to access your secondary via the web?

What this is teaching us is that these freebies from gmail, msn and others lack technical support that is not generated via a computer. :-(

It would seem so simple just to have Google reset the darn password for you, and you could change it later. I hear your frustration!

Thanks for the tech support email! After a “dictionary” spam with my account last week from what appears to be Chinese pirates, I filed a complaint with the Feds, received overwhelming silence. No idea how to contact gmail or if they actually cared. Then yesterday, to my horror, my sent box was full of bouncebacks of emails sent “from” me! The same creeps had sent multiple messages to everyonbe in my address book. My account was disabled. Additionally, I was and still am receiving weird “friend” spams from people with Chinese names. Of, course I don’t answer them and when I was freaking out yesterday, I changed my password to a stronger setting and changed the security question too.

If that’s all tech support could offer as a solution, maybe it’s OK I didn’t know about them after all. What else can THEY do? Well gee, WE DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, OR FOR AS MANY PEOPLE AS NOW, WHEN ONE NEEDED A REFERENCE TO GET A GMAIL ACCOUNT!

GMAIL OWES US A MORE SECURE PRODUCT! Otherwise, why not just go back to Yahoo/AOL and use one of the free/cheap FTP products out to send and receive big files?

GMAIL HAS TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THESE ISSUES!!!

I thought I was upgrading aol, but instead I cannot access my gmail account. What a pain!! please get me back on gmail. thanks

i’m having the same exact problem. i really cant afford to lose my account. i guess i will wait a day or 2 to see if the probem resolves itself. already received all the automated replies

What Do You Think?
