HP Computer With Vista Ultimate Running Slow

A reader responded to an article from back in March 24, 2007 [here], and stated they were having issues with their HP system using Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate edition. This jogged my memory and made me wonder how many others are suffering slow performance because of what we call ‘crapware’. Most notable of the freebie programs that come preinstalled on some systems are security suites that will slow down your system to a crawl.
Reader Desalegn statement indicated slow performance and freezing of their system and that all drivers & BIOS had been updated. My last reply was this:
Hello Desalegn,
I would take a look than at your anti-virus protection or any additional software that either came preinstalled, you installed later, such as security suites. In particular Norton, McAfee and so forth. Let me know if you have any of these programs. Even 3rd party firewalls can slow or freeze a system. We usually refer to some preinstalled stuff as ‘crapware’ aka ‘crap’
Read this about crap remover:

This Dell user with a slow system until the crap was removed.

These issues are not confined to Windows Vista. Windows XP users also suffered from ‘crapware’ as well. The bloatware installed on most systems was crippling.
I hope that this may help others who are having issuess with their system as well.
Comments welcome.

As is usual for a big fat OEM, HP and Dell get kickbacks for including a boatload of software the user doesn’t want, many people have taken to calling these things crapplets.
And the first thing you have to do with OEM Windows is either uninstall all of it, to which Dr. Claw from those old Inspector Gadget cartoons would say “Next time Gadget, next time!!!!”, meaning they’re all backed up on the recovery partition, or sometimes you’ll have a recovery disc or the ability to make one, in my case it was a Gateway, so I just nuked the partition on my hard drive and reinstalled from the clean disc.
Of course Windows Vista is it’s own beast, if you’re just sick and tired of every upgrade getting slower and having more crap you didn’t ask for, and costing in the ballpark of $100-$300, you could always try Ubuntu, you can download it legally and make all the copies you want, or have them send you a disk, they’ll even pay the postage, and make as many copies as you want.
While this may not be an optimal solution for some, the speed difference makes Ubuntu a Formula One race car, while Vista is a 3 cylinder Geo Metro, and with Wine or Cedega you can run all or most of your impotant Windows software anyway.

i have an hp paviliaon laptop wth vista… have never had so many problems since owning ANY computer… this could send me over the edge… want to smash this thing into the ground then off the cliff… and i am not a violent person!! so many glitches…have to shut down a few times daily when the computer decides that it no longer wants to respond to the keyboard. have installed a new hard drive…. the main problem seems to pertain to microsoft office…,… just spent $1800 on this thing a year ago and don’t know what to do.
the main thing is WEAK… very shakey, takes several attempts to complete simple tasks ie: attaching a photo!! the curser has a mind of its own, skips from line to line at random, no rhyme or reason… very very very frustrating…
