Mitsubishi 60″ DLP HDTV At $1399 - Deal Or No Deal?

I received this ad this morning from Tiger Direct which is offering what appears to be a good deal on a HDTV. The ad is for a Mitsubishi 60″ DLP HDTV, with an instant discount of $200 [no rebate required] and is listed for $1399 with free shipping. The unit itself appears to have all of the bells and whistles.
I went to the Best Buy site but the model was not available. Over at Cirsuit City they are asking $1599 for the exact same set. So the $200 discount does appear to be real.
The spec’s on the set are:
- 3D Ready
All Mitsubishi Diamond 1080p DLP HDTV’s are “3D Ready”. This feature allows you the ability to be immersed in your favorite video game, movie or sporting event. As more content becomes available in 3D, this functionality will develop into one of the most exciting HDTV experiences. - Easy Connect
Connectivity made easy! Mitsubishi’s ClearThought® Easy Connect simplifies set-up and day-to-day use. During set up, it recognizes each input as it is plugged in, prompts the user to name it, enters it into the Device Menu and only shows used inputs. - Front USB Input (5MP Photo)
View 5 Mega Pixel Photos on your Mitsubishi TV in startling HD clarity. Easily connect a USB thumb drive or USB Card Reader. - 3 Rear HDMI™ 1.3 Inputs
HDMI™ (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is an uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI™ provides an interface between an audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an A/V monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable. HDMI™ supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats. - Front Component Video Input
Front component input for easy connection of HD sources such as video games and video cameras. - 2 Rear Component Video Inputs
Inputs have 480i, 480p and 1080i capability.
So the big questions is, deal or no deal?
Comments welcome.

I have to issues with rear-projection when comparing it to LCD/Plasma.
1. the bulbs on a rear-projection system need to be replaced (just like a regular projector)
2. rear-projection sets are significantly larger than LCD/plasma screens (can’t be wall-mounted or placed on a fireplace mantel
With all that said, Mitsubishi makes great products (even though TI (T E X A S Instruments) is the backer for DLP). If I was in the market, I would at least consider this but in the end, it wouldn’t work for me because of it’s size and shape.

Hi Doug,
Thanks for your input.
Let’s see…..
You are correct you can’t write the name of the longhorn state.
Very weird! I’ll pass this on to LG support.

It looks like a spectacularly good deal to me.
Doug makes good points. I would note that I have a five-year-old Sony rear-projection TV and have had to replace the bulb only once. (But new bulbs are expensive.)

Just bought this 3 days ago, with a PS3. Using HDMI. 1080p is awsome, loving the blue ray picture. Very Bright even on lowest setting. We replace a 32″ CRT and this was lighter. Got it for 1,299 at FRY’s with free mail in golf club from Mitsubishi.

I just bought this tv 1 week ago at Ultimate Electronics for 1299.99. We replaced a 53″ old school projection. We really enjoy having the new tv especially with the PS3, the clarity is awesome. We love it!!!
