Judge Says Dell Is Guilty Of Bait & Switch Scheme

On CNN this morning they reported that a superior court judge has agreed with the state of New York, that consumers were deceived by Dell computer company. In a ruling it appears that Dell is accused of using bait & switch tactics and Dell must pay. What the payment will be has yet to be determined.

The story further states:

State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo sued Dell in 2007 on behalf of hundreds of customers who claimed that the electronics company lured them into buying products with promises of attractive deals and promotions.

In reality, the lawsuit alleged, most customers were denied or misled into believing that they had been approved for low interest or financing rates.

The lawsuit also accused Dell of depriving customers of technical support that they were entitled to, in some instances, by pressuring them into performing repairs on their own or subjecting them to long wait times on the phone.

In a 26-page decision, Supreme Court Justice Joseph C. Teresi found in favor of the consumers.

Which makes one stop and think. Is Dell the only company who engages in bait and switch tactics, or did they just get caught? Is this a witch hunt or is the Attorney General for NY state really concerned for our welfare? Let us know what you think.

Well, I can say this from personal experience: Dell is NOT the only company that does this sort of stuff - actually, I prefer to do my own repairs, rather than have to ship back a PC for repairs, but that’s beside the point.

Other companies that have “promised tech support” but don’t fulfill on the promise are Gateway, HP, Sony, and sometimes Toshiba. My experience with the last one is very limited, but the first three I mentioned, are horrible in some cases.

Gateway, esp. in the 1990’s was the worst for “bait and switch” practices regarding tech support. I had a desktop that I had purchased from them, and getting them to give me the overnight “tech support” they were supposed to give required me to take the stupid thing to a local GW Store.

I will never, ever, buy from them again. I also will not buy from Sony except in rare circumstances, and certainly, never buy computers from them. Dell and HP are about the only two mainstream companies I consider right now, but now I’m not even sure I’ll buy from them either.

Also they transfer you to oversea supposed techs.Beaware if you have a cell phone. These oversea calls can cost you a fortune. You wont know it until you get your cell phone bill.Make sure you ask for tech surport in the United States. I dont know what it does with a regular phone. But im sure it probley has the same results. Because most regular phones are for only long distance in U.S.So i do not believe they should be doing this.If they do they should pay your cell phone bill or regular phone. Also you get transferred endlessly and it takes them days to get anything done.Even if you do tech support online. There custmer service sucks.Computers are good but good luck on getting help.
