Splinter Cell: Conviction Outdated Before Release?

Over at Computer Games & Video they are reporting that the newest game from the Spliter Cell group dubbed Conviction is going back to the drawing board. Seems that the game was outdated even before it’s release and needed some TLC. New release date is expected in 2009 or 2010.

Also on the same site is the following:

Conviction has been in development for some years now, surfacing early last year with combat involving dynamic scenery and crowd stealth gameplay that focused on mixing in with the public in Washington DC – a bit like Assassin’s.

According to XBW, it’s likely that the decision was made after Conviction was outdated by more recent gaming developments – most notably Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed.

The official word from the developer is that the release is on hold for now. I am sure more information will be available once the smoke clears and a decision is made. Stay tuned.

Comments welcome.
