Dell Dumping XPS Models For Alienware

Several sources, including the Wall Street Journal, are reporting that Dell will eliminate their XPS models of computer systems starting next month. Dell had purchased the gaming company Alienware back in 2006, and has finally decided to push this well respected gaming computer system[s].
One can only wonder why it has taken Dell so long to make this decision. Having two gaming system models competing against each other seems counter productive since they are owned by the same company. Having Alienware as their main gaming system seems like a logical choice and should benefit the company.
So what do you think? Is this a good idea or should Dell keep the XPS model?
Comments welcome.

Dell does realize that:
a) Alienware has a horrible reputation with their PCs/Laptops being DOA or breaking very quickly on arrival
and
b)Alienware models are HORRIBLY expensive compared to their XPS counterparts?
I say keep the XPS models.

Hi Jeremy,
Makes one wonder why Dell even bought Alienware when they already had gaming systems.

Ron, not to steal any thunder but I have a blog post that I would like to refer others to.

If you read the whole post you will understand why I did this. If you don’t feel like reading the whole post at least to the URL below of a summary.

Hello Doug,
Thanks for sharing this. It is strange. Why did Dell buy Alienware if they were going to compete with their own products?

It’s interesting, but honestly it makes no impact on me. I’d rather build my own system. I’d rather buy a thinkpad than a xps laptop or an alienware laptop. Maybe I’m just a bit odd.
