Vista + SP1 + Netflix = May Cause Problems

If you are a Netflix subscriber and are using the Netflix software to watch on demand movies, you may experience some problems using the software after you upgrade to SP1 for Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system. It seems that the cause could be a problem with Internet Explorer.
According to some sources there is a simple fix to try. Resetting the defaults may just work. So try this. Go into Internet Explorer Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Menu and click on “Reset Internet Explorer Settings’ button and hopefully this will cure the problem.
Comments welcome.

No dice. Netflix is still having trouble with the DRM. I downloaded and installed SP1 about a month ago; at that time, and with the tech support person at Netflix that I spoke to; Netflix seemed to be unaware of the issue. I had to chase after ways to rebuild my DRM after their utility failed as well.
Thanks for trying, hopefully it will help for some. I’m sure this is a Microsoft issue, and am waiting for either MS to fix it or for Netflix to figure out a work-around. Until then, I’ll be running off of a backup prior to Microsofts “upgrade”

I just had an issue with netflix watching online instant movies. It told me I have been using my account on 4 computers and cut me off in violation of licenses etc.. I called tech… He asked me if I was using AVG anti virus 8.0…. My answer was yes… He told me the 8.0 for some reason has a coflict and destroys the licenses codes…. you can have 4 under your account for the purpose of using other computers.. But AVG eats one up..then you watch another movie and eats that one up….
Netflix has to access your desk top remotely and issue you another….. but he told me its a matter of getting that one eaten up again after watching a movie……
I will face this problem until AVG fixes that bug or I uninstall AVG

Apparantly the problem with AVG is that it creates a “Safe Registry” for applications running from the web. Since this gets cleared after you are finished, the license isn’t cached and gets re-issued.
I had a lot of problems with the license screen popping up in mid movie, the time slider and play button not working and connection dropouts where it would just freeze. Whatever they ran on my machine when they connected remotely fixed the problem. Been running clean for a week.

I think one of the recent Patch Tuesday updates resolved this problem. I successfully downloaded and installed the Netflix Movie Viewer and was able to watch a movie.
I also had Zune software open at the time, so it’s possible that DRM management software was loaded at the time.
