Big Changes In Cuba - End Of Communism For The Island?

During the past month we have all read about the major shift in policy in the Cuban government that is slowly allowing its people more access to technology. The Cuban government is even allowing folks to buy computers as reported by the Associated Press.

HAVANA (AP) — Cubans are getting wired. Computers went on sale to the general public on the communist island on Friday and potential consumers were lining up outside store windows to gawk and consider buying.

President Raul Castro’s government had authorized the sale of personal computers to average Cubans more than a month ago, but they were not made available until Friday.

Computer sales are the latest of a series of measures Castro has taken to make life easier for ordinary Cubans.

But is this going to spell the end of Communism for the Cuban people? Or just a loosening of policy to allow the people more freedom, while still being held by an iron fist?

Comments welcome.

I think that Cuba will soften the freedom rules, but it will never become totally free. If anything goes wrong with the current freedom, ex. many people try to search a cuban leader it will be blocked and shutdown by the government due to a attempted terrorist plot. Already if you go to Google in Cuba it will block somethings about the Cuban government. This is what I think will happen in Cuba.

The changes are all cosmetic for the international community. The prisons continue to be full of dissidents and the “Women in White”, wives and mothers of the 75 imprisoned reporters are not allowed to protest peacefully and their pleas for the liberation of their husbands and sons go unheard.

The computers can only be paid for in dollars or “convertible currency”, and an average Cuban earns $7dollars a month. The internet connection is $10 dollars per hour and only at a government controlled kiosk.

Free access to the entire web is not allowed and big brother is far stricter in Cuba than in China or the muslim countries.

Please remember that in a communist regime the truth is the very opposite of what the totalitarian governmental machinery discloses.
