ATT DSL Without A Phone Line

  • No Related Post

On Tuesday I did an article concerning broadband service. or lack there of, for the Sonora Union Democrat. [Article is here] Like many rural areas, it is sometimes difficult to obtain broadband service, depending where you live. But this morning I received an email asking if DSL service is available from ATT without having to subscribe to local phone service. The person inquiring uses a cell phone only and has no ATT phone service to their home.

Interesting. I recalled that when ATT was scooping up the baby bells, they had to offer DSL known as ‘Naked DSL’ to subscribers in California. So I checked the ATT website and sure enough, DSL is offered without having to subscribe to phone service.

There is also a toll free number to call to learn more about this service and whether it is available to you. 1-800-288-2020.

ATT website is here.

This may save a few of you a few bucks every month. Also notice that these services are being offered with no commitment.

and they do have att phone service . . .?

Maybe SomeOne Else Will Have Better–Luck

I think this is a good plan on AT&T’s side because it seams everyday the cell phone companies make their internet services reach as far as possible, but it seams that it can go farther each day. People in rural areas have jobs too and would like and need to have fast internet to trade files and downloads. Even farms are starting to go tech with new computers to keep track of inventory and sales. In the future, you might be able to access internet in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, you don’t need a phone line *and* you don’t even have to use ATT for DSL in an ATT local phone service area. They won’t tell you this but it’s true. A far better DSL provider (speed, no restrictive policies and excellent customer service) is speakeasy.net. I used them for several years while living in California without needing to have telephone service from Pacbell (now known as ATT). Speakeasy has branded their no phone service required DSL as OneLink DSL. Since I no longer live in California and no longer live in an ATT local phone service area, I unfortunately cannot get Speakeasy or any other third party DSL. But as soon as it’s available to me again, I will definitely be a customer again.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the comments and information.
Regards, Ron

Anyone know which ATT cell phone has the best signal pickup? My girlfriend’s Razr certainly works better than my Sync. Anyone know about a Mt. Elizabeth (Cedar Ridge) tower failure? Know any sites than might contain the info requested?

I have had charter, time warner, fios, and had the option of what I want! I am moving to an apartment where ATT is the only provider! They will not provide service with out phone line! I guess the best option is to get the total plan 110 which will be what after taxes!

Any suggestions!

Yes AT&T provides Internet (DSL) without telephone connections. They call it dry loop DSL

I was paying 23.99 for my 1.5 Mbps (no telephone) and everything was fine. But last month I received a bill for 29.99.
When I called and asked explanation, as usual they say price hike.

Now I am searching for a telephone line so that I can switch to some cheap DSL providers like http://www.DSLEXTREME.com

40 minutes later - here’s my story…I spoke to an AT&T rep, asked “if I can setup a dry loop conncection for my DSL and cancel my land line” I was told yes, but that I would need to be transfered to the cancelations dept. The next rep (who BTW was very knowledgable!) ran my address and said the dry loop service was Not available at my address, and explained why not, and then suggested I downgrade my phone service from $27/month to $7.28, which allows you 60 outgoing calls/month and unlimited incoming calls. Way more than I will ever use, with a cell phone. AND he gave me a month free of internet service!

SO you CAN have AT&T DSL without a land line, but must be within the service area.

Bottom line, I’m saving $19/month…these days, every penny counts!!!

Thanks for the information everyone. It is appreciated.
