AMD vs Intel - Which Is Better?

I found this post on the Internet in the PC Perspective forum in which the writer calls an article by ExtremeTech ’silly’. The artcile by ET compares a AMD chip to a Intel chip and makes an attempt to compare the two. The article by ET goes on to state that the Intel chip is superior, but seems to ignore some of the basics of why the Intel chip won the test.
If this was an isolated incident, I would most likely would of ignored it. But unfortunately this comparison between AMD and Intel chips has been going on for years. Too many years! I must agree with the writer of the PCP article, it is ’silly’. I base this on my own personal experience using both AMD and Intel chips. In fact the AMD chip in my desktop gaming system is twice as fast as the Intel chip in my personal laptop. It should be since the AMD in my desktop is double the speed. So much for comparisons.
I also agree with the PCP writer when it comes to cost. The AMD chip he cites at Newegg was about $60 cheaper to purchase. One must weigh this factor into the equation when one is purchasing any chip, whether it be an AMD or Intel.
So I guess my question is this. Do you base your chip purchase on reviews or what your wallet can afford?
Comments welcome.
PCP article is here.
ET article is here.
Side note: I have five computers at home. 3 Intels and 2 AMD’s. I don’t see any major difference in performance.

I base the decision of a chipset (Intel or AMD) on how the computer is going to be used and budget. For my occupation purposes, I am an IT Consultant at a University, I always go with Intel. Main reason being that we primarily recommend the Intel chipsets that sell with Dell OptiPlex’s. Secondary reason being that work off a universal imaging utility that contains only drivers for Intel chipset. This reduces the size of the image pretty significantly.
For my personal consulting, if base my decision on the client’s budget for the most part and also on how good of a deal AMD is offering over the Intel counterpart.
For the most part, I am not against AMD and not for Intel.

“For the most part, I am not against AMD and not for Intel.”
