Apple vs PC Commercials Keep Coming And Coming

  • No Related Post

One of the most powerful forms of advertising is the tv commercial. Billions of big bucks are spent every year on trying to convince us consumers to buy this or that. To buy something we don’t need or want. But need to buy. So Apple’s latest round of Apple vs PC commercials continue as the onslaught against the lonely PC guy continues. But are these commercials really helping Apple?

One must conclude that they are. I personally believe that the folks at Apple are brilliant people. The iPhone and Mac Air speak volumes about their creative juices. Nothing really can compare to this two technological marvels. I would bet that consumers, beside Apple loyalists, bought these products in direct relationship to what they have seen on TV. These Apple vs PC ads actually give Apple credibility that they have better products than what others produce.

Apple is very proud of their accomplishment and has a web site dedicated to why you should buy a Mac. Also included are the Apple vs PC commercials, plus a smattering of why Mac is better sales pitch. The one I like the best was:

‘Thinking about upgrading to Vista? Even more reasons to get a Mac.

1. No upgrade nightmares.

Before
you can even think about Vista, you’ll likely need a new PC. Or
upgrades for memory, hard disk, and graphics card. Why go through all
that hassle, when you can just get a Mac?’

But with all of this great hype, plus smoke and mirrors, it makes me wonder just one thing? Why has Chris of Lockergnome fame dumped his Mac and gone back to a PC with Windows XP installed?

Comments welcome.

Apple get a Mac site is here.

The main problem with macs arguments, and for example this one about upgrading and hardware… With windows based machines, it’s extremely easy to find new hardware when you do want to upgrade. You can get all the compenents, and a higher level of competition beween suppliers to drive the price down. With Macs… Once it’s out of date, you’re extremely limited to what you can upgrade, especially as the machines were not really built to be taken apart unless by proffessionals.

It’s just an argument I needed to put across.

Hello Farmr,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I agree. This is why 90% of the world uses PC’s. More parts availability at a lower price. :-)

Farmer, the Macs-are-not-upgradable is one of those persistent false myths that just keep falling apart, specially since the Apple switch to intel. Correction, is not a myth, it’s BULLSH*T (I’ve had it with know-nothing know-alls)

I just upgraded (cheaply) my aging Power PC G5 tower with generic RAM (2GB x $40), an LG dual layer DVD writer (new $35), a 500GB additional hard drive ($99). IT RUNS LIKE A CHARM.

on the other hand, my aging PC refuses to work with my webcam and skype, and is screaming for the Nth XP clean re-install to get it thru its final months, after which I will say Adios Cabrones to Windows for goood.

and by the by, just had to plug the internal LG dvd writer and OS X recognized it inmediately, no need to bother with the LG drivers CD (which of course contains only PC versions).

Is that plug-and-play or what?

now try doing that with Vista!!!

Hi kiko,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
FYI Vista uses plug and pray!
