What Blogging Software Do You Use?

Posted by on Mar 28, 2008 | 11 Comments

For the past few days or so, the formating tool bar on my site here has taken a vacation. When I log in to the dashboard and go to write, only the HTML code section appears. It has been way to long since I played the code game and like most of you, have become totally spoiled using text editors that do the work for you. I checked with some of the other LG blog folks and they also are missing the formating tool bar, which confirms my suspicion that it just wasn’t me.

So I received some advice from a few here concerning using a 3rd party application to post my writings. I am currently testing ScribeFire which is an add-on to Firefox. So far it works OK. Plus it publishes my dribble without any problems.

But I thought I would ask everyone what they use. What software best serves your blogging style?

Comments welcome.

I have also been experiencing this problem. Since I don’t post too often, I figured I would just wait even though I have something I want to post. I figured I would just wait because it includes some pretty intensive embed codes and the like. I just have to be patient.

    Hi dabrace1984,
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

    Ron,

I’m not sure if you read “The Ramblings of a College Student” on Lockergnome but the author (Justin) is actually planning on leaving Lockergnome because of this issue. Another blogger here referred users to Windows Live Writer as an alternative. I checked it out and my first test was to see if it would allow me to successfully edit a previous post; after all, a lot of programs don’t like manipulating code from another interface/program. Worked fine for me. Give it a try.

    Hi dabrace1984,
Do you need to use IE for WLW to function? I’m a Firefox loyalist and FireScribe is working well.

I saw [Justin's] post and complaints. :-( We are all hoping that once Chris makes the BIG change over to a different system, all will be well. Fingers crossed.

    Hi Ron,

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier, such is life. I am running a brand new MacBook Pro with a VMware Fusion Windows XP virtual machine. I have Windows Live Writer installed along with Windows Live Mail desktop (because I have multiple Hotmail accounts and it makes it so much easier to check them all at the same time). Windows Live Writer is a stand alone application that probably (not exactly sure) uses Internet Explorer in it’s interface; but I can’t confirm or deny that claim. Give it a try for a couple of your posts and do a comparison with FireScribe. I will probably try FireScribe myself.

    Thanks Doug.

  • Nice one.

Or you know, play the steam version of portal that comes free with the playstation 3 copy of the game. But then again your post was so funny and clever and not trying too hard at all.

    Where? Sony’s offline.

Same exaggerated reactions to downtime have been going on since 1997 when Ultima Online would go down. Since then, it has evolved in to all MMO’s, gaming portals and networks and now console networks.

Same old whining. Demands for compensation.. even from the free services. Disregard for ToS agreed to which clearly state that there is no guarantee of uptime and an outage could occur at any time and last indefinitely.

Dare suggest that the network impaired users go out and do “real life” stuff and one can only expect a flurry of angry attacks usually fueled by meme withdrawal.

    *yawn* Entitlelists are so predictable.

But isn’t “online” real life? :)

I’d be careful about what you reveal. ;)
