For those who can’t wait to get their hands on the first service pack for Microsoft Windows Vista, you can download the standalone package from the link below.
But before you jump into SP1 with both feet, may I suggest you read some of the driver issues that Microsoft indicates could be a problem.
Vista SP1 standalone download is here. It’s 434.5 MB so a broadband connection is recommended.
Installation and driver problems and some helpful resolutions are here.
Let us know if you install SP1 what you think.
Comments welcome.
PS Don’t forget to backup your stuff first before the install.

When I ran SP1, it said Windows Update had already installed everything new in SP1!

Hi Ron; I did the stand-alone version of SP1 the other and found that my bootup and shutdown times DOUBLED !! Of course, I did a complete image backup of the hard drive, and after about a day of playing with the beast, I restored things to the “Before” time! LOL
A friend of mine mentioned that the full version will be available next month, and even Microsoft was advising people to wait, so as not to incur any problems. Maybe some day they’ll get it right (??). Not having had any problems with Vista, I figured it was worth a shot, and being curious, I now know it wasn’t worth the approximately 1 hour it took to d/load and install.
Happy Easter and keep up the good work Ron.

Hi Don,
YIPES! That is certainly surprising when the main purpose of SP1 is to speed things up. Sorry to hear that the dl version didn’t work for you. I agree about waiting until next month.
Have a good weekend and Happy Easter to you and yours.
All the best, Ron
