Vista Updates – Loopback Still Causing Problems

Posted by on Feb 19, 2008 | 7 Comments

In my roaming around the Internet I have found that some on the are blaming KB937287 as causing the loopback problems on their Vista systems. As of this writing there is no posted fix I could find. It seems that this fix is needed for the installation of SP1 for Vista to proceed. On the Vista Team Blog site this explanation was posted:

Nick White wrote in his Windows Vista blog post: The final two of three prerequisite updates needed to install Windows Vista SP1 will also be hitting Windows Update. KB937287 which is the servicing stack update and KB938371 which is a multi-component update are both required before installing Windows Vista SP1.

The updates (KB937287 which is the servicing stack update and KB938371 which is a multi-component update) are both required before installing Windows Vista SP1. What’s being updated is the Service pack and not Windows Vista. (Windows XP has a SP1 & SP2 as well) The two of three and one update to come are updates FOR the SP1 – aka Service Pack 1. This is not a Vista OS update. It is a SP1 update. When the complete SP1 is ready, then we will be updating Windows Vista with the SP1. I hope my comment helped to clarify…

Confusing? You bet. As of right now you may wish to wait before installing any updates until this problem is resolved. Just a thought.

Microsoft hasn’t addressed the issues for those who are stuck in loopback land.

Also, for those stating they haven’t had any problems with Vista updates. Check back in your update files [Control Panel] and see if either of the above fixes were added. If not, this could explain why you haven’t had any problems with the updates. You have not received the fixes as of yet needed for a SP1 Vista install.

Comments welcome.

vista updateKB938371 failed to install twice. should i install updates or let my automatic update do it. why does it alert me to important updates when it should be automatic?

I am not very good with all the settings for the computer and internet. Up until this week I thought Microsoft updates would not cause me problems. I let the computer install the updates and could not access my comcast e-mail site. My internet is still giving me some problems, but after I removed the updates I could at least get my e-mail. I get a reminder to install updates evey time I shut my computer down. At this point I do not ever want to update it again.

I received a notice of 5 updates midday after the 3 AM upload and decieded to install them. Big mistake, it loaded 3 of them and said 2 updates failed. Now the computer is stuck in loop to loop saying configuring updates do not turn off computer. It starts out with configuring updates 3 of 3 0% and goes to confurging updates 3 of 3 92% and shuts down,It continues this endlessly. I have tried F 3 and F 8 and Sys Rq and nothing works . Any Ideas? Larry
