Diskeeper 2008 Pro Reviewed

Diskeeper 2008 Pro is a software program that is specifically designed to improve system performance by providing a professional solution to the problem of fragmented hard drives. Even though hard disks have come a long way in design and performance during the past decade, the problem of fragmented files is still a concern. The basic of what happens is that files become scattered around the disk and make it harder for the system to read the files.

So what are your solutions? You can use the built in Disk Defragmentor program that is part of the Windows operating system. You can use a freebie such as Auslogic. Or for those who feel the need, you can purchase a professional program such as Diskeeper 2008 Pro. What to do. I think each of us has to look at our own systems to determine when a pro program may be advantageous. On the system I used Diskeeper 2008 Pro on, I have stored a lot of ’stuff’.

So what happened when I used DL 2008 Pro? First of all let me start by saying that this is a very simple and intuitive program to use. Everything is plainly laid out including a Auto feature that allows the program to do its thing behind the scenes when when the cpu cycles permit it to run. This feature is a nice touch for those who do not want to handle certain functions manually. You know. When you forget to defrag  like for 6 months until someone reminds you. :-)

DK 2008 Pro handled the process on my system in about 45 minutes on the first go around. While it was working, I was still able to use my system normally. For those who have used other defrag programs you may have noticed a system slowdown. But did my system really show any system performance increase after DK 2008 Pro finished?

I personally did see a difference. But you must remember. I use my system daily for 6 to 8 hours on average. So the work I do consists more than just email and surfing. Because of this, your mileage may vary. But if you would like to give DK 2008 Pro a try, they have a 30 day trial version available.

See what you think and let us know.

Fragmentation can be a royal pain if it is allowed to proliferate unchecked. 6 months between defrags is too long I think ;) Like you said, it’s easier to use an automatic defragger that handles stuff in the background; more convenient and effective than remembering to schedule a defrag regularly. Having the drive in an un-fragmented state can help stave off premature hardware replacement costs by prolonging the life of the drive. Also, saves money and increases productivity by keeping the systems in top shape, and reducing the workload of the IT guys.

Checked it out recently and it seems to be pretty good, defragging about 160GB in very good time. Am considering purchasing it as i can forget about checking frag levels every now and then or troubleshooting hangs and freezes while using the native tool which leaves me more exhausted than the drive itself.

What Do You Think?
