Microsoft Vista SP1 Refresh 2 Available – Final Should Be Coming Soon
This morning I received an update from Microsoft indicating that a second refresh for Windows Vista SP1 beta was now available. Also was an outlined procedure for using WU [Windows Update] to install the Refresh as well as an option to do a complete new install.
Yesterday there were several rumors that Microsoft could be releasing SP1 final for Vista sometime next month. Febuary 15, 2008 seemed like a chosen target date. Depending on how this final test goes there is a good possibility that we will see the final release fairly soon.
For those of you who have been waiting patiently for this fix, hopefully you will not be disappointed when it finally arrives.
I’m going to be offering a piece of advice that I had previously mentioned and was chastised by several readers for saying. Whether it be Vista SP1 or XP SP3 I would recommend that you wait a few weeks before trying the fixes. Why? When SP2 for XP was originally released there were quite a few folks who experienced some problems. After the fix some systems wouldn’t boot.
Be careful. ![]()

Check out the following registry entry after installing Refresh 2:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\ServicingStackVersions
Look at the data for build 6.0.6001.18000. Notice the rtm designation?
