Save Windows XP Petition - Will It Work?

Over at InfoWorld they are circulating a petition to try and save Windows XP from extinction. The petition states:

Please complete this petition so we can add your name to those who want Microsoft to keep Windows XP available indefinitely, rather than force users to upgrade to Windows Vista. With your support, we can convince Microsoft to spare XP’s fate of being discontinued on June 30, 2008.

We will not send your e-mail address to Microsoft; we require it only to verify that you are a real person and have not previously signed this petition.

Windows XP is like a old comfortable pair of shoes. When you put them on your feet they fit perfectly. But is a petition enough to get Microsoft to change their minds and not discontinue Windows XP on June 20, 2008?

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Petition can be found here.

I think that they have a snow balls hope in hell. Thats what I think. And there is no way I am going to let them have my e-mail to spam to death.

Forced to upgarde to Vista? A little misleading. Anyone now using XP will be able to continue to do so. XP will be supported for a number of years well beyond 2008.

Only slightly misleading, as there will be no other option for those who are trying to buy a new computer, they’ll be forced to get Vista.

While I support the cause, there’s no way I’m signing the petition. It’d be one thing if they just asked for my first name and my email, but to ask for those, plus my last name, city, state, and postal code too much to ask for to sign a petition that, as Agarath put it, has a snowball’s chance in hell.

Thanks for the comments. It should be interesting to see what Microsoft has for a response. After investing all the time and energy on Vista, I also doubt they will keep XP around.

NO.. WORKY….!. BUT Microsoft Will Get a Good Laugh…. :-)

As an IT Technician most people look to me for advice. I suggest to them that if their complete system is under 2 years old you could upgrade to Vista with no problems, but if they’re only upgrading their PC that is over 2 years old I suggest to them to get Windows XP.

With Vista’s requirements it usually pushes the price of a PC up therefore theres a market for a cheaper OS (maybe not Windows, :-S).

I have no problems with Vista apart from the driver issues!!! Other than that bring it on!!!

Windows XP was the most Stable OS (in my opinion) And i am currently using it right now. Besides Vista, I would reccomend users who want to enjoy their PC NOT TO UPGRADE TO VISTA BUT stay with the seven year BEST OS OF ALL TIME…..MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP!!!

What Do You Think?
