I noticed some improvement on my dell 1501 laptop with 1 gb of RAM. Some applications load faster with this Eboostr but this Xp ready boost does not make the significant in reduction of window boosting time.

Overall i quite satisfy with this piece of software but i would recommend for the ultra fast USB drive for best performance of eboostr.

Having tested eboostr on 2gb ram 1.86 ghz win xp sp 3 machine together with Sandisk Cruzer Contour 8GB (4 allocated cache) the results are:
- Halves boot times for most apps, on the 2nd time you launch them after a restart.
- Crashes my reliable machine after hibernation
- Will not allow stand-by mode - closes down or crashes

Anybody w. bright ideas is welcome, otherwise I will have to give up on this. A working machine is faster than a crashing one.

I have a lot of RAM. How do I assign a portion of it for the eBoostr cache?

Hello Krisjohn,
I am sorry to hear it didn't work for you. May I recommend you try a different thumb drive and see if that helps.

I gave eBoostr a try at home, but on both the PCs I tested it on I got application crashes (including explorer.exe) and other assorted corruption. It doesn't look like there's any lasting damage, but it's not something I'll be hurrying to test again.

Which is a shame, because it looks like such a promising idea.

I'm just starting to test out eBoostr on my Dell 400SC 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 74 GB WD Raptor 10KRPM and am impressed so far. I am actually going to use 2 1GB Lexar Lightning USB Drives and a small segment (256-512MB) of physical RAM for the cache. I've found that my hard drive activity has gone way down and I would think that would be a huge plus for laptop users. Less wear and tear. Everything during normal usage seems a bit snappier and smoother. Outlook performs a lot better and some of the delays that were starting to push me towards buying a new computer are now instantaneous.

If you have a lot of RAM use a portion of it for the eBoostr cache. I'd also recommend using a FAST USB drive over a huge one. Some are slow as hell and would probably slow down your computer when using them to cache.

Contrary to what they promised, there is already a new upgrade, eboostr 2.0, which is NOT free. You have to pay more money for it.

to: HANK G and EVERYBODY
I have read in MSDN's blog (microsoft) and in Tom Archer's blog that is REALLY NOT A GOOD OPTION disable the "pagefile swap" or WORST MOVE IT to the flash drive. I'm not a PRO but I will explain what I understand so far (any correction or improve it is well received) First 'cause READYBOOST and eboostr from Rusian MOD, it not a "pagefile" substitution (replacement). They work as a "CACHE" so they are faster for little file random write/read, but in other cases there are also Large files that are also wrote to the pagefile and that ones are QUITE FASTER read/write by the HDD (even if the HDD is a 4200rpm), So because of that in Windows Vista ReadyBoost the OS know this and make the "right choose" of where to write. Also the Microsoft developer of ReadyBoost said this is QUITE COMPLEMENTARY with SuperFlesh ( OS learning which program you use more frequently and need faster access depend of the type of task it made, it not just the frequently program you use. hope you understand). At last they said ReadyBoost it was made THINKING OF NOT THE TOP LINE of computer (high bus way CPU, Big RAM, etc). So in most cases it's the same to upgrade RAM if it is possible (obviously have to compare the cost in each case). In the case money it's not a matter, you can use both HIGHEND computer and READYBOOST, but it will be really a narrow specify boost to your Windows Vista, but if you have the money buy a 35mb/sec read/write Flash drive and use it 2-3GB for READYBOOST. I'm just guessing but also eboostr it's not really to boost the boot up time either (that is more related with SOFT SOLID DISK "SSD" but that it's other topic and you need U$400.00 dollar for 32-64GB SSD). Don't FORGET that of course it will be best notice the boost when using HIGH RESOURCES DEMANDING PROGRAM (HIGH PROCESS SIZES) like: Mathematics calculation, photoshop CS3, database analysis, etc, etc, etc.
So in resume KEEP YOUR "pagefile swap" over 896MB, Defrag IT, and try some software as "PerfectDIsk 2008" to keep it defrag it and in the first part of the HDD (it do it everytime you start windowsXP if you don't mind to wait to start your windows) and use CCLEANER to wipe and tune up your windows registry.

Hi Guys

I have tried this software and yes I did notice a huge performance increase on my Venice 3000+ with 1 GB RAM. I just want to ask

How to empty the cache? looks like that my Cache drive is full and I want to start from the beginning, but when I rebuild the cache file, the bar showed that the overall cache still there

I got a laptop that use free version of eBooster, and I always reboot after 4 hours. Is the free version have full functionality?

Where could I find the manual? as the Help file isnt helpful :D

thank you :)

I didn't try this program since i'm running vista. But will try it for my eeePC (once i got one :) I'm quite sure that it will benefit most if your flash drive is "really fast"

If you have lots of small files in your hdd - try copying them to your flash drive and see what it's look like. I have got two 512MB (apacer) and one 2GB (pqi => very cheap) flash drive. both 512MB can write the small files at respectable speed - however, it takes forever to write those small files (speed is <64KB/s!!! according to Vista) to 2GB drive while I can copy 700MB DivX file to it at 11MB/s!

i think this is the reason that some of us has negative performance impact...eboostr might be writing lots of small files or many small pieces of data to it - so you get the worst speed of your flash drive.

Maybe you have to buy the one with Vista ReadyBoost certified - ReadyBoost certification also demandis that the drive must be able to handle 4KB piece of data at high speed.

...but that might costs you more than buying more RAM.....So, use eboostr if and only if you already had a "really" fast flash drive around :)

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
