HDTV - More LCDs Coming From Sony

  • No Related Post

Sony has recently announced that it will concentrate its efforts in manufacturing more LCD televisions, and will stop shipping rear projections sets effective immediately. Sony will continue to supply the RP sets until all current supplies are exhausted. In the future the Bravia series will be LCD only.

When I first read this announcement from Sony, my first take on this is that after the holidays we may just see a fire sale on the older models, since it would appear that Sony may wish to dump its inventory. If you are in the market for a HDTV using LCD technology, you may wish to keep your eyes on future retail ads in your local newspaper.

It is also hoped that if manufacturing costs of LCDs continues to be lower that lower pricing may also be in our future. This could also translate into lower pricing for DLP and Plasma TVs as well. 2008 could turn out to be the year that HDTV starts to really take off for the masses.

So what about you? Is a HDTV television in your future plans? If so, what kind of set are you looking at - LCD, Plasma or DLP?

Comments welcome.

HD will naturally take off as people are forced to get a digital tuner, and many will simply upgrade the entire set.

I find it truly amazing how long some things take to become part of the fabric of the land. I saw a working HD set that provided (reaching back, into the distant memory) 1250 lines of resolution at the CES in Vegas in 1985. Seems like 22 years is a very long time for something as ubiquitous as television to change.
