Nintendo Wii - Game Recommendations Anyone?

In a previous article I mentioned about buying a few Nintento Wii’s for the kids in the family, and I am now looking for recommendations on which games you people would recommend for them to play?
The ages range from 9 to 4 years old and no shoot’em ups please.
Though I am an avid PC game player who enjoys first person shooters, the kiddies mom and dad’s are looking for non violent play for the little ones.
I was looking at the Carnival Games. Has anyone tried this?
Comments welcome.

definitely mario galaxies. with some help and guidance (theres a minor 2 player coop mode which is quite handy through much of the game) a 6+ could quite well be able to work through the game. And it scales well simply because of how easy it is to pick up and play, anyone with previous mario experience will have a blast.
after that, ive not got that many wii games that would be suitable. But movie tie ins would be good depending on the exact age and the movie, and the quality of the tie in. Id suggest looking at some of the other mario franchise games as well, such as mario and sonic olympics and mario party.
really it depends on what said child will consider to be cool, and how mature they are in their console gaming ability (i found that coming back to games years after i originally got stuck made them way easier than id previously found them to be).
but id definitely recommend Mario Galaxies, its easily the best non-shooter game this… well… probably decade.

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll put that on the X-Mas list.

some good games for the Wii that are kid friendly are:
WarioWare Smooth Moves - lots of mini games
Super Mario Galaxy - great Mario adventure game
Super Paper Mario - a Mario platformer game
Mario Party 8 - another game with lots of mini games
and Wii Play - it comes with a extra controller and the game comes with mini games like those of Wii Sports

Thanks for the suggestions. I got Mario Paper & Mario Galaxy ordered today.
I will keep the others on my list as well.

I second the recommendations above, those are good choices. Heck, Wii Sports (the game that comes with the Wii) is really fun too. That’s a game I can recommend for all ages.
