Windows XP Hacked - MS Calls It ‘Frightening’

During my travels around the Internet I ran into an article about a couple of hackers at a conference who hacked a Windows XP machine. One of the attendees was a Microsoft executive who called the exhibition ‘frightening’. If that all there was to the story, one would think that we XP users were being left out to dry. But there was something odd about the entire tale that didn’t make much sense. The XP machine was using Service Pack 1 with no updates. Strange.
At first when I read the story I thought maybe is was an example of why people should upgrade to Service Pack 2. Yet as I read on through the article, this was just glanced over. What was hinted at was that folks should upgrade to the more secure Vista. Which I than surmised was the whole purpose of the experiment to begin with.
This is a perfect example of FUD [Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt] at it’s finest. Which made me wonder. How does the reasoning at Microsoft come to the conclusion that by telling us how made their previous operating system was, that users would all flock to Vista? This type of logic to me seems flawed. If Windows XP is such a terrible operating system, why did Microsoft unleash it on us in the first place?
Using a half protected system is idiotic in the first place. It makes one also wonder just how stupid Microsoft thinks the public really us. The article to me was nothing more than a self-serving Microsoft gimmick that doesn’t even deserve to be linked to.
Comments welcome.

Well, well, well. Sounds like classic FUD to me too.
XP SP2 with the firewall enabled by default is pretty secure.
XP SP1 is legendary for being easily hacked. I don’t know if it is actually true but it is said that XP or XP with SP1 will be taken over in about 20 minutes once connected to the Internet. I have never tried the experiment. Might be a laugh sometime when I’m feeling bored.
