I'm Dumping Vista And Buying A Mac! Who Cares?

Posted by on Nov 16, 2007 | 11 Comments

Ever since Vista came out, there has been a chorus of voices who keep threatening ‘I’m dumping Vista and buying a MAC.’ Sometime they shout they are going to go with Linux. Which I personally believe is their God given right to do so. But enough already with the threats. Just do it and move on.

Yesterday was another of those threats being made by a tech writer that is anti-everything in the world. This person could find fault with anything and everything on the planet. So when I read his threat about moving to a MAC, and dumping Vista, my first thought was I feel sorry for Apple. It would only be a matter of time before he would bad mouth Apple as well.

Let’s face it. There is no such thing as a perfect computer. Whether it be Windows, an Apple OS or Linux, they all have their quirks and misgivings. None of the operating systems is superior no matter what anyone tells us. This is a 100% personal opinion at its finest. Each of us uses what we personally feel is the best for us.

It is so easy to spit out venom about any system no matter who makes it.

What do you think? Are you tired of listening to the same junk everyday or is it just me? Should I write trying to convince people why brand x is better than brand y, or would you rather make your own decision on which to use?

Do you even care? :-)

Comments welcome.

All I have to say is ROGER THAT! You could not have said it better. The same arises in the gamesystem arena – ps3, xbox and wii. Who cares!! Pick what you like and move on. People, please use your brain cells and find new topics to speak about. It’s a wide world that we all live in with plenty to talk about. Great, great, great post – well said Ron!

Guilty as charged! As a sysadmin, working with various OS’ I’ve caught myself badmouthing Vista and/or Mac X. Which is why I use what I need at that moment in time. I think I, as most users are using a combination of both. Thanks for your great posts Ron!

It’s about time someone put it out like that ,hopefully they will read this and use common sence, and give it a break.

    Hi memoman42,
Thanks for your comments and for sharing your thoughts.

    Hello Wayne,
I hope so. I think we could all use a break. :-)

I have done just that. I have ditched my PC and bought a Mac. Vista was the last straw for me. I know all OS systems have problems, but my PC forced me to do so much error repair that is got in the way of the reason why I use a computer – to get work done. I am an experienced computer user and know how to solve most problems. I just don’t want to.

It took a short time to get used to the MAC way of doing things, but now I am comfortable with it and extremely happy. It in fact works better than any PC; it is more intuitive, and most important – one can ring MAC help and speak to a real person, or visit a Genius bar. I am a MAC convert. Microsoft can do what it likes I am not returning.

    Ron,

You’re right! Who cares! I did buy an iMac, ne of the newest models, and used it for a month and found that I had the same problems as I do with Vista. I took it back and bought a PC with Vista. In fact, I remember when everybody said the same thing about XP when it came out and now it seems they want to go back to ‘good ol’ XP’.

I have Vista and I’m happy enough! I’ve got thousands of dollars of software for Windows and it seem crazy to start allover.

Is it frustrating? Hey, my cell phone is frustrating an it probably runs on Linux.

    Regards,

    Gary

    Hi Robert,
    Glad you like your MAC.

    Hi Gary,
It is expensive rreplacing all of that software we have purchased over the years. :-)

I am a computer professional, it how I make a living.

I think Mac OS X is a fantastic OS, but it has problems, mainly learning curve for Windows users. I got my iMac last year, opted for the 24″ screen, and I love it!

I hardly ever use Windows at home, however, at work it’s a Windows world. Earlier this year I built a system especially for Vista, so I could become familiar with it and how it works. I loaded Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 Ultimate, while I’m not overly fond of it asking me for permission, everytime I load something new, or plug in my camera, it’s better than discovering some dirtbag scriptkiddie has hijacked your Windows box.

I’ve had a Linux server running for 12 years, I’ve changed distros from time to time, from Red Hat to Slackware to Debian back to Slackware. I’ve also had a Linux desktop running for pretty close to the same time frame, it was a Red Hat box (back in the day), and until recently I was running ELX, but have since swutched to Ubuntu.

I don’t care what a person uses, as long as they use it smartly and not become a victim of a computer hijack, or buy something they will never use. I’m sure the Microsoft executives are not staying up late at night because someone threatens to go to Mac or Linux instead of Vista. One thing I am certain of, that person will be back with Microsoft within 1 year, simply because there is more support for Microsoft products, more training, more media exposure, and more support from vendors.
