Google And Its Android – gPhone Rumors Can Now Die In Peace
Well it is now clear that Google is not developing a phone all by itself, rather it is organizing a group of some 34 companies into a group that will share software called Android. The Android software is based on Linux and was developed by Google itself for use on handsets. By sharing the software and developments, minus the intellectual property debacle, Google hopes to compete against the likes of Apple, Nokia and Verizon. I would imagine that the list is longer, but you get the point.
The new alliance will be known as the “Open Handset Alliance”. Some of the notable players are T-Mobile, Sprint-Nextel, Intel, Broadcom, LG, Motorola, Samsung, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, eBay, and of course Google itself. The theory is that by forming an alliance in which the software is already in place, the hardware manufactures will be able to concentrate their efforts in design. With this in mind, it is also hoped that the new handsets will be cheaper which should be a hit with consumers.
So after months of rumors, it all boils down to this. It’s not a gPhone that Google has been working on. It was the gathering of some of the major players to form an alliance to hopefully shake things up a bit.
Disappointed? Only time will tell how effective this alliance will be against some of the main players in the market place. What ever is developed, is going to have to be light years ahead of the competition. With that thought in mind, who better than Google to lead the way.
Comments welcome.
