PC vs Mac – Which Is Better?

Posted by on Oct 31, 2007 | 4 Comments

I received a comment from one of readers concerning both Dell and Gateway introducing what can best be described as Mac look-a-likes which stated:

Is this an answer to the rise in iMac popularity? Do you think the price point is going to come out similar for most people choosing between a “One” model like you mentioned and an iMac? I know this ignores the whole mac v. pc argument, but for a typical consumer, it seems the all-in-one concept makes it possible to get a mac “machine” with a pc-interface.

First of all, thanks for ignoring the PC vs Mac argument, which I  believe comes down to personal preference that is best left to each user. I am personally happy to see that Mac sales are on the rise, since competition in the marketplace is always welcome.

The comment from MamaToo gave me some food for thought. Are Dell and Gateways new ONE models in response to the Mac’s popularity or just a design change to get away from the typical PC box? As most of you already know I have previously written about the lack of design for the typical PC. The tower box and it’s lack of style is getting extremely boring, at least in my opinion. Some have disagreed saying they could care less what a PC looks like, and were more concerned about functionality than style. But why can’t we have both?

Also I completely forgot about the HP Touch Smart models that also has the ‘ONE’ appearance. So one could conclude that either Dell and Gateway models are in response to HP, or that all three PC makers are responding to the popularity of the Mac. Another thought is that it could be both. A change in design styling to attract a high end buyer or also in repsonse to the pleasing design of Mac computers.

Whatever the reasoning, I welcome the new designs.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I think that the Mac has a ton more to offer. Ya thats pretty much it. They have so many cool features while the PC is just a PC you know?

I am very big into photography and have HP desktops at my home. And they do not seem to be as effective as what a Mac would be, or at least seem to be. That iLife program seems to blow any HP program out of the water. Is that correct? Or am i totally oblivious to HP Programs? Is there an HP Program like iLife that lets you do that same things such as creating an actually hard bound book or a calender that is easy to use life what Mac shows?

well, I think that PC is sooo much better, here are my reasons.
    1. macs cant play any good games
    2. macs are WAY more expensive wit the same stats
    3. now that window 7 is out, PC has got even more simplicity and options
    4. u have to pay and extra $90 for video software and windows comes with free video editing software.
    5. mac doesnt have right click
    6. if u hav a mac u look a bit gay
    7. u pay more for the software that isnt as good
    8. many software compatiblity issues with mac
    9. the list just goes on and on…

Mac costs more because you get more; complete reliability, intuitive interface, hardware tailored to software (ultra efficient) and all necessary software (in the box).

I tallied the cost of owning countless PC boxes against the price of owning a Mac and here’s where Mac pulled into the lead–compatibility issues with peripherals that required either replacement of the peripherals or endless fights installing drivers.

I was constantly having to load boards with memory to get speed, and switch out cards so that upgrade software would work.

The time may come when Mac designs a game computer but that time has not come yet. I believe it will as market share continues to increase.
