Dell XPS 420 - Superb Design ?

I read several articles this week concerning Dell’s new XPS 420 model which one reviewer described as a ’superb’ design. So thinking this was worth a look-see I trotted over to Dell’s site. Excuse me. It’s another box with a 20″ monitor. I’m not taking away the fact that it has a fast processor, a bunch of RAM and a hot video card, but ’superb’? I think not!
What has happened to innovative design? Look around. Our cars are flat boring. They all basically look the same. Without actually looking at the name plate, can anyone really tell the difference between SUV’s? Last evening there were two car commercials which aired back to back. The first was for the 2008 Honda Accord which proudly proclaimed a styling change. The next was for the 2008 Chevy Malibu, which claims you won’t be able to ignore it.
If one swapped out the Honda H on the front grill for the Chevy logo, you would be hard pressed to see any real difference. They looked like cookie cutter designs that are not going to knock anyone’s socks off.
Even television sets all look the same outside of the difference in size. They are either black or black with a silver trim.
So tomorrow when we all get up I want you to put on a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a pair of keds so we all will look the same as well. Or do we already do that anyway?
Comments welcome.
PS This article is a cookie cutter design of a previous article. ![]()

People still wear keds?
I think Dell is leaving the innovation to the Alienware label it owns, and concentrating on being boring and reliable - just what corporate America wants.

Hi Jerry,
I think my only thought would be if Dell has driver support for XP. I’d check it out vefore making the purchase.
