Halo 3 Special Limited Edition Disk Scratched - Free Replacement

  • No Related Post

Some forums are already reporting that some people have found that the packaging for the Halo 3 Limited Edition disks have scratched the disk. Microsoft has already responded with a replacement program which has been posted on their XBox 360 site. According to some sources the replacement program is a freebie. So I checked Microsoft’s site and sure enough they are replacing the Halo 3 disks for free. A forum is available to obtain the free replacement.

Microsoft states on their site the following information:

Xbox Disc Replacement Program

If, for any reason, you have a damaged Microsoft® Xbox 360™ disc and like to replace it, please review the information below:

THIS PROGRAM IS GOOD ONLY FOR XBOX 360 CONSOLE OWNERS IN COUNTRIES WHERE XBOX 360 IS SOLD AT AUTHORIZED RETAIL LOCATIONS.

NOTE: This program covers the Halo 3 Limited Edition Game Disc and Essentials Disc at no charge through 12/31/07.

This program only applies to games where Microsoft is the publisher, and is subject to availability. To check and see if your game is available for replacement, please review which Microsoft products currently fall under this program.

Also check the other software programs that will also be replaced if a disk is damaged. Though the replacements disk are available, there is a $20 charge for replacement on other programs, excluding Halo 3.
Comments welcome.

I heard about this from my son, who, like me, thinks it is very stupid that Microsoft took no precautions to stop things like this. It makes me wonder what kind of idiots are running the show. Simple QC should have made this a non-issue. Another case of MS being penny wise….

Also, the launch seems to have been a non-event here in SoCal, as his friend went to pick up a copy of Halo 3 yesterday, to find the shelves fully stocked, and no one else in the store while he was there (about 30 minutes) to purchase a copy.

I have begun to wionder if the buildup was a bit much, and MS took too long to bring the game to market. I’m anxious to see numbers reported, as clearly there were many, many more copies shipped than were pre-sold.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the information. I think people would be wise to open the copy before leaving the store to check the disk. Why wait until you get it home and have to send for a replacement?
Ron

hey, if you check the site now, it’s free through 2/1/08, nice. few extra months!

Hi casey,
Thanks for the info.
Ron
