eBay - New Hackers Roost

I just read an article over at PC World that states that hackers are selling their wares at the online auction site. Though it states that the hackers are drawing very little bid activity, what is disturbing is that eBay representatives have stated there is little they can do about trying to police their site. Say What?
Are the folks at eBay telling the public that they do not have the resources to police what goes on their site? Give me a break. Here is a multi-million dollar organization that can’t spend a few bucks to have their own site effectively monitored. Does this mean that some one could post child porn on their site and eBay wouldn’t notice? What’s next. Selling stolen identities?
What is really disturbing is that this seems to be a current ‘theme’ for all of the technology industry. Read the articles about how hackers are having a field day stealing data from corporate computers, yet the security firms seem to have the attitude that they can’t do nothing about it. Or that spam is a way of life, even though over 50% of internet traffic is spam, nothing can be done. Windows is a sieve, and all Microsoft can do is apply patch after patch to try and stem the flow of hacks.
Which would make one think that the hackers are smarter than our technology folks. Or is it that hackers are good business for the security firms? Using FUD to keep us all in fear that our systems are in jeopardy every day we surf the Internet.
What do you think? Is it time for the public to demand more from companies like Microsoft and the security firms who produce software we pay for that may not work? How about eBay. Should the public take them to task or should we just sit back and say the hackers have won?
Comments welcome.

Ebay could care less what people do or say on their site. I bought a cell phone a couple of years ago which did not work for me. I e-mailed the seller before I bought it and he did not respond. It was cheap so I took a chance and bought it. My feedback about the seller was “Seller did not respond to e-mail and I was dumb enough to buy it anyway…” Well this guy had a fit because I ruined his “perfect” record. He ranted on on how to not sell to or buy from me. I contacted Ebay about this guy, (this was my first time on Ebay) and asked if there was anything that they could do.
This brings us back to my first line….Ebay could care less. I told them I would not use this site anymore. They said “if you quit you can not come back” Needless to say, I never went back. So thanks for askin Ron, I’ve been waiting to tell someone.
P.S. This guy also sells cute little bicycle shorts…..

Try to sell a GUN on eBay and watch the eBay police come down on you. They can’t police it?

Jim’s right, they certainly could police it if they wanted to. Hell, they took the time to forbid UK buyers from buying a PS3 earlier than the UK March release date because Sony got their panties in a bunch about it, why can’t they police this?
