Apparently the rebate is such a good deal that Office Depot forgot how to use proper grammar. The first sentence of the product description on there website reads “Norton AntiVirus 2007 is designed to helps protect your entire computer by preventing viruses, spyware and other security risks from harming your system.”
It should read “Norton AntiVirus 2007 is designed to help protect your entire computer by preventing viruses, spyware and other security risks from harming your system.”

Avast is better, less of a headache. Best part is, Avast is not only good, but free. Norton used to be real evil to try and remove, do not know if it still is. .

Hi Doug,
Maybe it should of read ‘if you use this product you are going to need HELPS
with your computer’ LOL. I am not a big Norton fan. Like Shadowmyth has mentioned, using free products such as Avast or AVG are a much better solution. IMHO.
Thanks to you both for your comments.

I was a longtime fan of AVG, but have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the free version since it always seems to do so poorly in antivirus tests. I’ve finally stopped using AVG Free. (Their paid version seems to be much better, but if I have to pay for AV software I’ll just go straight to the best - Kaspersky.)
After experimenting with AntiVir, ClamWin AV, and Avast!, I’ve finally settled on Avast! as my new free AV program. (If it can’t self-update and self-initiate scans, I don’t want to bother with it.) I also keep a copy of ClamWin AV on a flash drive (using PortableApps) and update it regularly. I run a scan with ClamWin about every week. Unlike every other AV app I’ve tried, ClamWin plays well with other AV programs.

CORRECTION: I’m using Avira’s excellent AntiVir Personal Edition Classic. I’ve got it scheduled to self-update and automatically scan my system every 6 hours.

Without wanting to start a rumble, I have never seen AVG do poorly in a test, except for possible false positives.
As for Kaspersky being better - AVG gets the definition files from Kaspersky - the reason I know this as certain is AVG posted confirmation of it when the false positives I have gotten in the past 6 months have appeared. The AVG website was waiting for the newest definitions to come from Kaspersky so their own product could update users.
I still use Norton as an on-demand scanner, without having the resident portion activated, it works as backup to AVG. As to removal, there is a removal tool for Symantec-Norton products - AND it works!

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the info. I had heard that before that AVG gets their definitions from Kaspersky.

Since we are correcting grammar, you should have used “their” instead of “there” when referring to their website.

Norton Antivirus Softwares I have gone through is the most powerful virus scanner and user friendly software. It is liked by the various professionals these days. AS due to its highly coperatable and virus predictable nature, i would therefore like to be the one of its demanding user.It would be the great privelage to get free version of the same.
