Acer Buys Gateway

Well the rumors did prove to be true. Acer is going to buy Gateway. According to Reuters, Acer will become the third largest PC retailer and will continue the Gateway line of computers in the US. The report also states:

Acer said it would pay $1.90 per Gateway share, representing a premium of 57 percent over Gateway’s last closing price. The U.S. firm’s stock rose 59 cents, or 49 percent, in pre-market trading on Monday to $1.80, from a Friday close of $1.21.

Acer said the merger would create a company with more than $15 billion in sales and 20 million PCs shipped per year, adding it would keep the Gateway brand in the United States.

On a worldwide basis, the tie-up would help Acer — Taiwan’s most recognized global brand — displace Lenovo.

I hope that the Gateway brand will continue on as before and that they retain their quality.

You are wrong, As a developer myself, i know that even though this maybe final release you still need Device ID to be signed in order to activate this GM on any iphone. So please DO NOT UPDATE!!!!! without first registering your UDID. Thanks

It works. IOS 5 on my iphone 4 now. No need to register the UDID. Download winimage to extract the ipsw file from the dmg file and restore.

Yes, and they do NOT work. They haven’t since iOS 5 beta 2.

That’s not true, they were working on beta 7. I’m not sure if it was the regular Gevey or the Turbo or the Ultra, but on beta 7 at least one type of Gevey WAS working.

Whether or not it works on this release of iOS5 though is not something I’m aware of yet.

Double click the dmb and it will extract the .ipsw file. Then follow the rest of the steps. Make sure you are using iTunes beta 9.

I’ve seen that error a few times in the past. If you’ve used TinyUmbrella, you should make sure that you’ve unchecked that setting for “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” under the Advanced tab.

Discovered a pretty major bug. I have a passcode on. When you double tap the home button when the phone is locked, go to camera, then gallery, then press the home button. You are in the phone. Passcode averted.

I had the same result as Cyrus. Are you sure your phone had gone into locked mode … check the Auto-Lock durations.

Try and recreate again:
a) Ensure the phone is passcode locked:
i) slide to unlock
ii) when you get to the passcode screen, hit cancel to go back. (If you aren’t prompted to enter your lock code, wait for longer than your Auto-Lock duration, then start back at (a).)
b) double-tap the home button.
c) go into the gallery. At this point you should not be able to see any photos (other than the ones you’ve taken in this session) because the phone is locked.
d) tap the home button. It should take you back to the passcode screen.

I just tested it out on mine with a passcode and it and it only shows a gallery of the pics I took while my phone was locked. You are not “in the phone”. In fact, when I tried to get into the gallery before I took a pic, it asked for my passcode.

you don’t extract the ipsw file. that’s exactly the one you need to browse and select from itunes when you go to perform the upgrade.

This isn’t working for me either. have latest beta of each as provided in this article, and my iTunes is giving an error, saying i am not eligible for this build (during initial verifications stage). Tried using tiny umbrella to redirect hosts, but just gives me error 11.

I got it working! you have to convert the .dmg file to an IPSW with a program such as PowerISO

Just rename it to .ipsw.

If you are using Windows 7 64bits, installing iTunes 10.5 beta 7 for Win7x64 will kill your iTunes.

trying to update iP4, using iTunes 10.5b7 on Lion, says device not eligible. Have tried with and without cydia gs.apple.com in /etc/hosts, no f**king difference.

iTunes just stop working, it didnt start up at all and thats it.

I had to restore Windows to a previous checkpoint and then repair iTunes with the actual version setup file. I have Win 7 Ultimate 64x. I didnt uninstall iTunes prior the beta7 installation so maybe that was the problem, I just installed it on top of the actual version… but this is a known issue at the Apple forums.

Use the “restore” button instead of the “update” button. Go back and re-read the instructions to see if there’s anything else you missed too.

Please help! I d/l the file and extracted the IPSW with 7-Zip. I also d/l the iTunes 10.5beta7 from the link above. When I go to iTunes to and use the restore option and select the file, iTunes says that it is extracting the file. Once it gets through with that step it says “Verifying restore with Apple”. I then get an error message that says “The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).” I have an iPhone 4 (Verizon). Anyone have any suggestions to fix this??

I’ve tried to login to iCloud using my apple ID and it says i’m locked out due to security reasons; I go to reset my password at iforgot.apple.com per instructions but still locked out. Anyone know if you’re not one of the approved beta people whether that keeps you locked out of syncing to the cloud? or am I doing something wrong?

Other than that, works great. Camera and Notifications are VERY nice improvements.

I have followed all instructions on this page, as well as many suggestions in the bottom, but I keep on getting error 21. Using iTunes 10.5 beta 9 on Mac OS X Lion. I even downloaded the .ipsw file twice because I thought the file was corrupt the first time. Didn’t really help.

Well, I have a version of iTunes 10.5 and managed to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 GSM. However it wouldn’t restore my data at all, am now attempting to restore back to an old version in recovery mode – fingers crossed I haven’t lost EVERYTHING.
