Windows 7 - What I Would Like To See

As we struggle through Vista with its high resource demand, high hardware requirements, and high price, it is hard to believe that Windows 7 will be with us in about 3 years. Since Microsoft hasn’t mentioned what they have planned for us, this is a great time to think about some of the things I would like to see. I know. I’m only dreaming. But maybe, just maybe, some of the things I would like to see in Windows 7 may just come true.
A Lean Mean Machine: How about an operating system that is built from the ground up. Not layers and layers of old code that drag systems down. Something that works on a minimal amount of resources and fits on a CD not a DVD. Built for those of us who use our systems for simple surfing, email, and some light software apps. No fancy graphics, no fancy bells and whistles, just a good, fast operating system. Microsoft can still build the mega Vista stuff for those that need it. Just have a lite weight version also.
Pricing: The new lite weight version for say $89.95. Less would be nice.
Boot Time: How about under 15 seconds? Microsoft original had plans for a fast booting system. What happened to that?
Security: How about real security and spyware protections. Not just a screen that pops up asking if we are sure or not.
One Button Fix: Problem with your system? Just hit ONE button and it fixes itself.
No Promises: Hopefully Microsoft will not over promise features to us that never happen.
So what would you like to see in Windows 7?
Comments welcome.

I agree with all your suggestions, except the price, which should only be 19.95..lol.

How about an affordable version that allows me to put the OS on more than one computer?
I understand there are piracy issues and all that, but one of the reasons why I’ve never really jumped on the Microsoft upgrade bandwagon is because I can only use a Microsoft install disc for one computer (it’s one of the reasons I’m really considering using a linux distro, as you can do that with linux). IMO asking anyone to pay $100+ (or $200+ with Vista) for each computer they own is ridiculous….

Heh Jeremy,
I like your thinking. It does get expensive for those of us who own multiple systems in the same household. Thanks for the comments.

Hi Den,
A one button fix would be nice for users, but not so nice for consultants.

I thought one of the new distros met most of the above requirements but alas Linux has compatibility issues with hardware and network connections, dialup, etc, If we could get the ease of installation with Windows 7 (install it in 25-30 min.) and utilities upgrade, it would get my vote!
