Dell’s New Vostro Computers - Good Job Dell!

In June Dell discounted their Dimension series of computer systems. Now they have introduced a whole new series of notebooks and desktop systems named Vostro. Designed with the business user in mind, the Vostro series would also make for a great consumer system as well. In fact you may recall that one of the Dell secrets previously discussed was that you may just get better service by buying a Dell business system instead of a consumer product.

So I went to Dells site to take a look at the Vostro notebook systems. The first thing I noticed was that you had the option of either Windows XP or Windows Vista on select models. I took a look at the Vostro 1000 Performance Package notebook since at $549 it also had a 15.4″ widescreen display that I am partial to. It also came with a AMD dual core 64 cpu at 1.7GHz, 1G Ram, DVD/CD dual layer burner, 120G Sata HD, wireless, ATI Radeon Express 256MB shared and even with adding one year one site next day service the price was still under $600 with free shipping. Seems reasonable.

It does appear that Dell is in fact listening and is making a number of solid changes that should help in heir turnaround efforts. Also of note is that Dell is expanding their offering of Linux boxes as well.

Did I mention that you can now get Dell systems with no crapware as well? Nice touch Dell.

So what do you think? Will the new Vostro be what Dell needs to turn things around?
