Read The New Dell Reviews In Living Color

I am sure by now that everyone has seen that Dell is offering its notebook series in eight vibrant colors. So last evening with this in mind, I went to the Dell site to take a look at the new coloring schemes available. If you haven’t seen the new colors, they look good. I have always said that the one problem with computers, whether they are desktop or notebook systems, is they lack any sense of style for the most part. I think we have all had our fill of pale beige cases or the black/silver cases that most OEMs use. Most all laptops are black/silver as well. So the color idea from Dell is refreshing.

But what struck my eye beside the colors was that Dell is now including reviews of its products as well. This novel approach also includes both pros and cons of its systems. Now that is gutsy. I don’t know how many companies would expose themselves to reviews that could provide comments on the bad points about their systems.

I have previously mentioned sites that provide reviews such as Circuit City, Tiger Direct, and so forth. Some have commented that reviews are useless. I beg to differ. I personally believe that reviews, though not perfect, provide some useful information that an informed consumer can use to determine if a certain product may fit his or her needs. Used in conjunction with reviews from trusted reviewers, I feel one can make a sound buying decision. Just my two cents.

I applaud Dell for taking this approach.

So what do you think?

Comments welcome.

Colors, very nice, really a big PLUS! I receive from Dell a lot of advertisment (I subscribe to), but also I am intrested in best performance, they offer mostly cheapest prices, a big MINUS!

Hi GIM,
Thanks for your comments.
Ron

Dell started offering these ‘colored’ systems after purchasing the Alienware company. Now Alienware has reduced the ability for the various color options such as Martian Red and Cyborg Green.

While it is simply smart competitive marketing I miss the old Alienware offerings. Seems funny that Dell would have to purchase a hot system provider before offering anything other than silver and black!

Hi Trekat,
Thanks for the comments.
Regards, Ron
