It seems that Gateway is now recalling laptop batteries as well. The Gateway program is voluntary and instruction on the laptop batteries affected with part and model numbers include the following units:

Not every Gateway notebook whose model number is listed above shipped with a battery pack affected by the recall. Only battery packs bearing the specific part numbers listed above are being recalled.

Check out the Gateway web site listed here to determine if your battery is one of the ones which are being recalled and how to obtain a battery exchange for your unit. If your battery is one of the affected, I would highly recommend you get a replacement. There have been some issues on other laptops where faulty batteries pose a fire risk.
