Google VS Ebay - Trouble In Paradise

It seems that Ebay has pulled their Google ads from their site and may be retaliating for a goof made by the search giant. Actually Google and Ebay have been at odds since Google introduced its Google Checkout which Ebay has shunned and refuses to use. It appears that Ebay is of the opinion that Googles Checkout is not ready for prime time.
The latest salvos involves planned events by both Internet giants which just happened to fall on the same day. Ebay seemed to feel that it was a deliberate act by Google. Google says it was just to promote Google Checkout. Who ever is right really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that EBay will lose some search engine results and Google will lose advertising revenue. Bottom line. They will both shoot themselves in the foot.
I would venture a guess that both Yahoo and Microsoft are looking at this situation as a possible golden opportunity. Ebay is Googles largest account and a good chunk of its revenue comes in through Ebay. Ebay on the other hand is the premiere auction site, and even with past problems, still shines as king of the auction hawkers. Which could leave both vulnerable to outside influences.
I would also venture a guess that both companies may kiss and make up since I am sure they will realize that they may just need each other. Then again, we are dealing with egos and anything can happen.
So what do you think? Is the Google - Ebay situation just a lovers spat? Or could this spell trouble in paradise?

I would hope / wish it’s the start of an all out war. Then Google would get into the auction business.
